Compensation for Approved Grants

Pratt Community College can apply for many types of grants and aid. In order to maximize our overall effort the following procedure will be followed:

  1. All faculty and staff are encouraged to identify agencies that offer grants and aid in their respective disciplines/areas of expertise.
  2. Employees who may be interested should inform their respective vice president of possible grant proposals and the employee’s interest in developing a proposal. The vice president will evaluate the request in terms of college needs and either approve or deny the request. Planning and assigned duties will be determined by the vice president at this time.
  3. The respective vice president will review the proposals and upon approval by the President, send the proposal to the appropriate agencies.
  4. In cases where the grant does not provide for compensation, the employee(s) responsible for preparing and assisting in submitting the proposal and preparing the follow-up report shall be compensated 15 percent of the base grant up to a maximum of $5,000 payable at the commencement of the grant or as prescribed in the grant proposal. In the event that more than one person assists in writing the proposal, the 15 percent or maximum of $5,000 shall be divided based on each individual's time spent in preparing the proposal.
  5. In order to qualify for compensation,
    1. the grants must offset costs that the college would normally be responsible for or produce credit hours whose net revenue is on the positive side of the ledger.
    2. the grant-writing activity must be voluntary and not part of an employee’s assigned workday duties
    3. the grant must be competitive, exceeding $10,000 and be for a minimum of one year.
  6. The President is authorized to negotiate compensation for the administration of grants. Such compensation will be in effect only during the period of the grant.
  7. 7. Remuneration is not applicable to the College's senior administrators (president/vice president level).
