    Mission Statement

    The Accounting and Business Department of Pratt Community College has a mission of providing students educational experiences and opportunities to meet their diverse and changing needs. The Accounting and Business Department offers courses that enable the student to transfer to a four-year college or university or to prepare for and obtain employment. It also provides continuous training and education, which allows professionals to update their skills and remain competitive in the job market. ACBSP only accredits Associate degree programs.


    PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES for both AS degrees:

    1. Students in the required computer class will demonstrate 80% of the computer competencies.
    2. Associate of Science business graduates will successfully transfer to a four-year college or university.
    3. Business Graduates will score at or above the standard deviation of the CAAP test for Reading, Writing, Math, and Critical Thinking.
    4. Students will be able to successfully complete an Accounting Cycle.
    5. Students will successfully pass the competencies for Macroeconomics and Microeconomics.

    PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES for AGS degree:

    1. Students in the required computer class will demonstrate 80% of the computer competencies.
    2. Business Graduates will score at or above the standard deviation of the ETS test for Reading, Writing, Math, and Critical Thinking.
    3. Students will be able to successfully complete an Accounting Cycle.
    4. Students will demonstrate comprehension of the basic principles of economics.
    5. Students will successfully complete a marketing plan project.
    6. Students will successfully complete a business plan project.

    PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES for AAS degree:

    1. Students in the required computer class will demonstrate 80% of the computer competencies.
    2. Students completing an Associate of Applied Science degree desiring to enter the world of work will find employment in their field.
    3. Students who attain employment directly after graduation will be successful at their job.
    4. Students will score at or above the industry benchmark levels of the Work Keys tests for Applied Math, Listening, Reading for Information, and Writing.
    5. Students will be able to successfully complete an Accounting Cycle.
    6. Students will successfully pass the competencies for Macroeconomics or Microeconomics.
    7. Students will successfully complete a marketing plan project.

    A reception was held in the Riney Student Conference Center to honor Carol Ricke in her retirement after a total of 35 years as a Business instructor at Pratt Community College.

    In addition to members of Carol's family and Pratt CC employees, there were several retired Pratt CC instructors in attendance, including four former business instructors Wanda Deen, Pat Gordon, Mary Gordon and Junnae Landry.

    Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) and Kappa Beta Delta (KBD) inducted their newest members at a ceremony in the Riney Student Conference Center.

    PTK is the honor society for students attending community and two-year colleges. KBD is a Business Honor Society for students in two-year colleges, or associate degree programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

    Stanion Electric CEO Visits Business Class at PCC

    Business students at PCC were part of a frank and honest discussion with the President and CEO of a large area business; about what it’s like to run a business.

    Bill Keller of Stanion Wholesale Electric Co. Inc, headquartered in Pratt Kansas, joined the Principles of Microeconomics class on campus, alongside Business instructor Carol Ricke and instructor Jenny Egging of Modern Distribution Sales and Management (MDSM).

    Keller focused on many topics, but the primary focus of the discussion outlined the win-win relationship between an employer and employees.
