General Description and Purpose

            The Library Clerk is responsible to the Director of Learning Resources.

              

     Primary Functions/Responsibilities

  1. Maintain an orderly and inviting atmosphere.
  2. Daily operation of the Library.
  3. Assist with overdue list and execute overdue notices as needed.
  4. Prepare bibliographies, inter-library loan requests, etc., as assigned.
  5. Assist with re-shelving collection materials.
  6. Assist and instruct in the use of electronic indexes, Kansas State Library database, computer databases and the internet in their search for information in and beyond our holdings.
  7. Assist faculty and library patrons with educational technology equipment.
  8. Assist with inventory.
  9. Maintain the collection stacks.
  10. Assist the director in the processing of new books.
  11. Operates library online catalog system in routine duties.
  12. Assist with educational technology as needed.
  13. Assist with training / coordinating Work-Study student Library Assistants
  14. Maintain data collection logs as requested

                                                               

      Coordination and Accountability Tasks

            Consult with Learning Resource Center / Library Director daily.

 

      Supervises the Following Staff            

Assist with the supervision of work study students.

 

      Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and other Characteristics

  1. Ability to build and ensure a positive mature relationship with students.
  2. Ability to ensure the atmosphere in the LRC/Library is always conducive to student academic activities.
  3. Ability to use computers; Word, Excel and the internet.
  4. Ability to demonstrate the usage of common computer techniques to students and community patrons.
  5. Ability to demonstrate effective usage of common software operation techniques to students and community patrons.
  6. Ability to perform clerical tasks.
  7. Ability to do detailed work accurately and efficiently.
  8. Ability to work well with patrons.
  9. Positive outgoing personality.
  10. Initiates positive library relations with students.
  11. Able to flex hours to accommodate the operational needs of the Library.

 

      Experience

            At least one year of previous clerical experience required.

 

      Education

  1. High school diploma or its equivalent preferred.

     

      Certifications and/or Licensure

            None

 

      Work Conditions/Environment

            Library environment. Requires some light lifting. Weight limit 25 lbs.
