      General Description and Purpose

  Payroll Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and quality of each monthly payroll that are processed. The individual must have a high level of professionalism, strong communication skills, and have exceptional customer support skills to be able to work with and properly address pay issues as they arise.

                                                                       

     Primary Functions/Responsibilities

  1. Prepare complete payrolls for all employees and students.
  2. Prepare all reports, i.e. monthly, quarterly, and year end, that relate to payroll matters. Responsible for accurate reporting of taxes to state and federal governments. 
  3.  Ensure fringe benefit expenditures and payroll deductions are completed and accurate. Furnish accounts payable with payroll information at the conclusion of each payroll cycle.
  4. Prepare and enter payroll information on computer. Ensure that contract and hourly salaries are calculated properly and distributed to the assigned account number.
  5. Ensure that electronic payroll data and payroll checks are accurately and timely prepared.
  6. Prepare journal entries for payroll and other expense allocations.
  7. Assist Human Resource Department with individual employee data, reports, and correspondence relating to payroll.
  8. Responsible for maintaining postage and mailing machines.
  9. Assist with monthly journals and reports.
  10. Assist with year-end closing and annual audit as requested.
  11. Back up for other business office positions.

 

      Coordination and Accountability Tasks

Perform other duties related to payroll and/or the Business Office as assigned by the Finance & Operations Office.

      Experience

            Two years payroll and accounting experience required.

     

      Education

            1.   Certificate or degree in business preferred.

            2.   Some college level accounting coursework preferred.

 

      Certifications and/or Licensure

            Certificate in business preferred.

 

      Work Conditions/Environment

            Office setting.
