Pratt, KS—Pratt Community College is proud to announce that Dr. Justin Maughan, a Physical Science instructor, has released a series of innovative research papers in collaboration with his research group at Kansas State University and Desert Research Institute in Nevada. Their research is being conducted for Las Alamos National Labs.
The research delved into unraveling the optical mysteries of various materials, with a spotlight on soot. Dr. Maughan recently took the stage at the National Conference of the American Association for Aerosol Research in Albuquerque, NM, presenting his latest groundbreaking findings to an audience of experts and innovators. “This work is extremely important as it gives you the key to calculate how something interacts with light.,” said Dr. Maughan
Research Papers Include:
- “Light Scattering from Spherical and Irregular Particles Over a Wide Angular Range”
- “Sensitivity of Backscattering to Spherical Particle Physical Properties: Size, Refractive Index, and Shape Deviations”
- “A Mixing Rule for Imaginary Parts of Refractive Indices of Aerosols or Colloids in the Rayleigh Regime”
Dr. Maughan is lending his expertise as a consultant for a cutting-edge company spearheading a government-funded Research and Development project. This innovative initiative focuses on detecting and identifying various aerosols, paving the way for a versatile product that promises to revolutionize applications in national security and beyond.
