Pratt, Kansas— Pratt Community College is excited to announce a significant achievement at Attica High School: a welding class composed mainly of female students preparing to showcase their skills and challenge industry norms. This initiative reflects the school's commitment to promoting diversity and empowering young women to pursue careers traditionally occupied by men.
Under the guidance of an experienced instructor, these talented students are learning vital skills such as welding techniques, blueprint reading, and metal fabrication. The program also emphasizes safety protocols and the practical application of welding in industries like construction, automotive, and manufacturing.
“This class represents a major step forward in showing young women that they belong in every industry,” said Nate Skinner, Welding Instructor at Attica High School for Pratt CC. “These girls are not just learning a trade; they’re gaining confidence, independence, and a sense of pride in their abilities.”
The students are already making waves, earning several certifications through Welding Technology Certificates. Many are also exploring post-graduation opportunities, including apprenticeships and college programs in welding and engineering.
One student shared her experience: “I never thought I’d love welding as much as I do. It’s challenging, creative, and exciting. I can see myself building a career in this field.”
Pratt Community College is dedicated to providing students with innovative and inclusive educational opportunities. By offering programs in STEM, skilled trades, and the arts, the school prepares students for success in the ever-changing global workforce.
