PCC eSports team ends regular season undefeated

The Pratt Community College eSports team has seen a successful season for the 2019-2020 season. Pratt Community College eSports is entering playoffs undefeated with a record of 12-0 in the game, League of Legends. In addition to being undefeated, they are also the Central II Division Champions. The Central II Division is made up of schools in Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Colorado.

INT Students Build High Powered Computers

The Information Networking Technology (INT) program is starting off the spring semester in full force. As the semester started students began building six new computers for their program. The computers that the students are building are AMD 3rd gen Ryzen 5 processors, solid state storage, MSI x570 active heat sync motherboards, Air cooled heat syncs with 1660ti graphics processors. The parts were custom ordered specifically for the functionality of the program and the eSports team.  

Pratt Community College 2019 Fall Semester Honor Roll

Pratt Community College has released the honor roll for the Fall 2019 semester.
Placement on the President’s Honor Roll requires a minimum of 14 hours of graded academic work with a grade point average of 3.75 or higher and no grade below a B.  The Dean’s Honor Roll requires a minimum of 12 hours of graded academic work with a grade point average of 3.4 or higher and no grade below a B.

EPT alumnus becomes instructor at newest EPT facility

Recent graduate of Pratt Community College’s Electrical Power Technology (EPT) program, Otto Orosco, became the instructor at the PCC EPT program at Dodge City Community College (DCCC). In August, PCC and DCCC entered into a three year partnership to allow current DCCC students to complete credentials as well as bring in potential students to the EPT program. DCCC provides the facility and equipment for the program and PCC provided the curriculum and awards the certificate or degree as well as hiring Orosco as a full-time instructor.

DePew named interim Vice President of Instruction

Monette DePew, Humanities and English instructor, has been named interim Vice President of Instruction at Pratt Community College. DePew assumed the role in the middle of the 2019 fall semester, taking on the responsibilities of supervising faculty as well as maintaining her role as instructor of Humanities and English. PCC President, Dr. Michael Calvert, agrees that DePew’s experience inside and out of the classroom along with many years of experience make her uniquely qualified for the position.

Ag Power Freshman signs work contract upon graduation

Pratt Community College Freshmen Mitchell Becker, Agriculture Power Technology student, has signed a three year contract with Prairieland Partners upon completion of the program.

Becker grew up in Conway Springs, Kan. and says he has always had a knack for mechanics. He heard about the program from multiple sources including his friends and his brother, and decided to join the PCC program.

Environmental Science class participates in stream ecology project

Pratt Community College instructor Dave Chambers and his Environmental Science class participated in a stream ecology project led by biologists from the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT) on Thursday, Oct. 3. The field trip was at the South Fork Ninnescah River directly behind Pratt County Lake. The objective of this project was to help students develop a better understanding of basic ecology and instill an appreciation for our natural resources and a sense of stewardship for the land.

PCC’s Licensed Practical Nurse program continues showing years of success

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Program has had many years of success at Pratt Community College. PCC’s PN Program has consistently met or exceeded licensure examination pass rates, with the last three years being above 83 percent as well as implementing new modern technologies to help students take classroom lessons into real-world simulations.

“The pass rates for the NCLEX exam have consistently been around 90 percent for the last two years in the PN program,” said Diana Mitzner, Director of Nursing.

2+2 Business agreement with Wichita State University

Pratt Community College and Wichita State University recently partnered together to offer a 2+2 agreement for business students. With this agreement, students take classes at PCC for two years and earn their Associates of Science degree. Then transfer to WSU and in two years’ time earn their Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

 “They can feel confident what they take at PCC will be accepted and transfer at WSU,” said Carol Ricke, PCC business instructor.
