Alumna says "PCC was the foundation to my degree"

“I loved PCC, it was my favorite year of college,” said Kimberly Brown, who attended Pratt Community College during the 2006-2007 school year.

Brown, who grew up in Pratt, said she originally attended PCC because she could get her general education classes out of the way while still living at home but saw many benefits later in life.

“The class sizes and availability of the teachers was wonderful,” she said. “I later saw how my decision to go to PCC made my foundation stronger than that of my peers.”

Miller and McAfee Participate in Leadership Development

Two Pratt Community College administrators have been accepted into the inaugural class of the Kansas Community College Leadership Institute (KCCLI). Lisa Perez Miller, vice president of students / enrollment management, and Kurt McAfee, athletic director, are among the 22 participants selected after nominations by their institutions.

Shooting Sports Club Trains in Nevada

Earlier this month, three members of the Pratt Community College shooting sports club and one instructor traveled to the Frontsight Firearms Training Institute Parumph, Nev. for defensive shooting training.
 

Student Admissions Representatives Accepting Applications

PCC Welcomes Miss Kansas Pageant

This year, Pratt celebrates 60 years of hosting the Miss Kansas Pageant. Pratt Community College is the longtime provider of the pageant’s unique venue and a major in-kind sponsor. The event, which brings hundreds of people into the community from around the state, has been held on campus for over half of its history in Pratt.The pageant is held in the college’s Dennis Lesh Sport Arena, and contestants spend the week residing in the college residence halls. 

​PCC Students Make a Difference at Pratt Area Humane Society

As Pratt Community College students complete their final exams and prepare to return home for the summer, the Pratt Area Humane Society looks back at the impact their student volunteers have made on the organization throughout the year.
 
Susan Mayberry is a PCC employee and chair of the Rescue Committee for the Humane Society. She describes the many student groups that came to donate their time, and credits them with giving the animals much needed exercise and attention, including the cross country team members, who take the larger dogs for distance runs.
 

Electrical Powerline Students Receive Scholarships

In a presentation ceremony on May 4, two Pratt Community College students in the Electrical Powerline Technology program were recognized for their hard work with scholarships from ITC Great Plains.
 
Jesus Villegas of Great Bend and Dereck Hahn of Garden City were each awarded $1,000 towards their college expenses by the energy company, which recognizes the importance of investing in the next generation of skilled workers.
 

PCC Hires World Champion as Head Rodeo Coach

This April, Pratt Community College welcomes World Champion Steer Roper Rocky Patterson as the new head coach of the men’s and women’s rodeo program. Patterson stepped in as interim head coach earlier in the semester, and accepted the permanent position after forming good relationships with the current students and seeing potential in the incoming team.

“Rodeo is all I’ve ever known,” said Patterson. “I’m here to help the students every way I can in what is traditionally a very expensive and demanding sport.”

Honor Society Takes Initiative to Treat Cancer Patients

15 April 2015

On April 14, Pratt Community College held a bone marrow donor registration drive and fundraiser. The event drew in 39 students, employees and community members who gave DNA samples for testing, filled out health paperwork, and signed an agreement to donate peripheral blood stem cells or bone marrow if a patient match is found.
