Face Coverings on PCC Campus Recommended, not Required Effective 2/22/2022

post date 2/22/2022

Effective today, February 22, 2022, face coverings are recommended, not required, to be worn throughout campus and in college vehicles. A face covering and/or social distancing may be required in designated campus locations (classrooms, meeting rooms, office areas, etc.) as determined by a campus official (faculty, staff, administrator). Please act responsibly and respectfully around others and continue to social distance while you are on the Pratt Community College campus. The College strongly encourages everyone to get vaccinated and stay current with vaccinations as this remains our strongest defense against community transmission and spread. Vaccines are free to everyone and available locally at Wal-Mart, Dillon’s, Gatlin Pharmacy and the Pratt County Health Department.

Pratt Community College continues to manage the risk of COVID-19 and diligently operate during a global pandemic; considering and responding to local, state, and national regulations and guidelines as appropriate. Employees, students, and campus visitors should be prepared to adapt quickly regarding changes with College services, operations, and processes as the College continues to minimize the risk of COVID-19 exposure. In addition, the delivery mode for courses other than online courses is subject to change. The health and safety of College stakeholders are our highest priority. The College website, social media, and prattcc.edu email serve as official modes of communication and will be used to notify students, employees and visitors of updates.

Pratt Community College Mask Requirement – Effective August 9, 2021

post date August 5, 2021

To support our number one priority, the health and safety of College stakeholders, followed by keeping classes, operations, and extra-curricular activities in-person for 2021-2022, the College is taking proactive steps to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and the Delta variant.  Effective August 9th, all students, faculty, staff, and visitors, will be required to wear a mask in all PCC public spaces (commons gathering areas, hallways, facility lobbies (including residence halls), restrooms, switchboard/mailroom, entry ways, bookstore, cafeteria, Beaver Bites, Learning Resource Center, Carpenter Auditorium and Dennis Lesh Arena), regardless of vaccination status.

In other designated spaces (classrooms, meeting rooms, private offices, residence hall rooms), where physical/social distancing can and is practiced, masks are recommended, but not required unless determined by a college staff, faculty, or administrator. If physical/social distancing cannot or is not practiced, a mask is required regardless of your vaccination status. A mask is required in all college vehicles unless social distancing can occur. A mask can be required in a campus location if determined by a campus staff, faculty, or administrator deems it necessary due to specific circumstances.

The following exceptions apply: while participating in activities in which a mask cannot be worn or would prohibit respiratory function (eating, drinking, playing sports), students in their private residence hall room, residence hall suite restroom, individuals with a recognized disability who have approved accommodations with the Student Success Center.

The College strongly encourages everyone to get vaccinated as this remains our strongest defense against community transmission and spread.  Vaccines are free to everyone and available locally at Wal-Mart, Dillons, Gatlin Pharmacy and the Pratt County Health Department. The College will also be hosting vaccination clinics on campus through the College Health Office, dates and times to be announced.

Additional COVID-19 protocols and guidelines are being finalized and will be announced next week.

Official Statement from PCC President Dr. Michael Calvert

Pratt Community College is closely monitoring the ongoing situation involving the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. Given the uncertainty of the circumstances, PCC is taking proactive steps to help ensure the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff and community. We are also taking measures to ensure the quality of academic services for the remainder of the semester.

With this in mind PCC’s Emergency Management Team, including Administration, has made the decision to extend Spring Break (regularly scheduled for March 16-20) through March 30, 2020 so that PCC faculty and staff have opportunity to prepare for transition to an online format. All PCC classes will be transitioned to online delivery starting Monday, March 30, 2020 for the remainder of the semester. Classes will continue in this mode indefinitely and the College will re-assess on a weekly basis.  All current, in-progress, online courses will resume as normal after Spring Break (March 23, 2020). Additional issues surrounding clinicals, labs and technical programs will be addressed in their respective departments. This effectively means that, after the conclusion of spring break, faculty and students should be prepared to transition all face-to-face classes to on-line delivery only.

UPDATE: PCC employee positive test for COVID-19

The safety and wellbeing of the Pratt Community College campus community is our highest concern.

Today, March 27, 2020 PCC administration was informed of a positive COVID – 19 test for an employee who works primarily in Chandler Hall on the Pratt Campus. The employee’s most recent day at work in Pratt was Thursday March 12, 2020 and on the Winfield Campus was Friday March 13, 2020.

As an institution we have an immediate response for these events and have implemented them here:

  • We have and will continue to communicate directly with co-workers, students and others known to have been in close contact with the individual. Current health guidelines state that people who have not been in close contact with a sick person are at low risk for the infection.
  • We have contacted the local health department and are working cooperatively with any additional direction given by them.
  • We are undertaking additional cleaning and sanitation protocols and will continue with our enhanced daily cleaning.

Please continue to practice social-distancing to the best of your abilities and good hygiene while adhering to the guidelines of Center for Disease Control (CDC).
I encourage you to monitor the PCC website and PCC social media outlets for further updates.

Dr. Michael Calvert
President
Pratt Community College

Update concerning PCC operations and moving forward

  Employee Travel Restrictions

  • Effective immediately and until further notice all college-related travel is prohibited unless approved by the president.
  • All personal out-of-state travel and air travel is strongly discouraged.
  • Employees who have recently returned from travel need to review and follow CDC guidelines and communicate with your supervisor prior to returning to campus.
  • CDC does not generally issue advisories or restrictions for travel within the United States. However, cases of COVID-19 have been reported in many states, and some areas are experiencing community spread of the disease. Crowded travel settings, like airports, may increase your risk of exposure to COVID-19, if there are other travelers with COVID-19. There are several things you should consider when deciding whether it is safe for you to travel (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/travel-in-the-us.ht…).

Recruiting Restrictions

  • All face-to-face recruiting shall be halted until April 15; that decision will then be re-assessed. This includes PCC’s campus, high school campuses, other sites, etc.
  • Recruiting efforts via email, text, social media, teleconferencing etc. need to be expanded and intensified.
  • Coaches may continue to have students sign LOIs through virtual or other alternative means (no face-to-face signings).

Early Enrollment for Summer and Fall 2020

  • Enrollment for Summer and Fall 2020 starts Monday, March 23, 2020; Effective on March 23 you can find the Course Schedule for both Summer and Fall 2020 on our website at /CourseCatalog.
  • Current and/or returning students will need to contact their advisor via phone or email for instructions and assistance. Please see the Contact Directory on the website at /contact-directory for email addresses and phone numbers.
  • New to PCC students can contact their Admissions Representative. Please see the Admissions Recruiter page on the website at /student-services/find-your-recruiter for email addresses and phone numbers.

Campus Closed to Public

  • Effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at 5 p.m., the PCC campus will be closed to the general public until further notice.
  • PCC employees coming to work must use their keys to open outside doors and make sure to lock doors behind them.

Employee Information

  • Tele-commute options and resources are being discussed. Supervisors will provide more information as it becomes available.
  • 10 person recommendation is advised per the CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/large-events/index….
  • Maintenance is taking extra precautions for cleaning and disinfecting areas, following CDC recommendations.
  • Residence Hall students will be moved to a central residence hall and the cafeteria will continue to serve as long as we have resident hall students on campus.
  • Controlled and pre-arranged small groups of students completing classes will be allowed per department.
  • Job search interviews will be done via teleconferencing.

Campus Events

  • All college events currently scheduled on-campus are subject to review and/or cancellation with at least a month’s (30 days) notice whenever possible. Prior to cancellation, consult with VP/AD/President.

Communication with Students

  • Current students can expect communication from PCC concerning transitioning to online or alternative class formats on or before Friday, March 27, 2020.
  • Student interviews for acceptance into Fall 2020 Electrical Power Technology and Nursing programs at all sites will be done via teleconferencing.
