PCC Pep Band grows with help of alumnus

18 September 2019

One of the primary goals of the Performing Arts Department for the 2019-2020 school year was the growth of the pep band. That goal is seeing some success already with nearly 30 members in the band.
Misty Beck, Pep Band and Performing Arts Director, is pleased with the growth of the band.
“Last year there were fewer than 10 in the pep band and this year we have nearly 30 players” said Beck. “I would like a couple more trombones and alto saxes to join the group, to help balance out the band.”
Beck invites anyone that has previous band experience to join the Pratt Community College pep band. Her goal is to engage and enrich the lives of all involved, no matter their age. In the PCC pep band, there are currently area high school students, college students, and community members of all ages.
Pratt Community College alumnus, Zach Stone, is serving as the band assistant. Stone graduated from PCC in 2017 and is thrilled to be back in one of his favorite spots, behind the drum set in the pep band at PCC. Stone has been playing drums since he was four years old and is a familiar face on campus and in the Pratt community.
While at PCC, Stone was involved in the pep band, Encore, choir, and had leads in all of the musicals during his tenure. The department is excited to have Stone back and his dedication to the program. This year he will assist with the band as well as recruiting.
Stone currently resides in Wichita where he works full time as a performer and advertising assistant for Field Station Dinosaurs in Derby and as a stage hand for IATSE 190.
When asked about the requirements of the pep band, Beck said that it is not a huge time commitment but does require weekly rehearsal and home game day attendance.
The pep band rehearses Monday evenings from 8 to 10 p.m. Beck encourages everyone that wants to join, to not be shy. They can contact her by email at mistyb@prattcc.edu or on her cell phone at 620-770-2345.
