Jason Deel Named Assistant Athletic Director, Sports Information Director at Pratt Community College

PRATT, Kan. — Pratt Community College Athletics has announced the promotion of Jason Deel to Assistant Athletic Director and Sports Information Director. Deel will transition from coaching into administration in this new dual role, reporting to Athletic Director Rachel Steinbarger. The Assistant SID will report to Deel. Deel is familiar to Beaver Nation. He recently served as an assistant coach for the PCC women’s basketball program, strengthening his ties to the college and community. “Being able to help lead a group of people who have similar interests and share common goals” is what excites him most about the new role, Deel said.
“Jason is a great addition to the athletic administrative team. He is a high-caliber individual who consistently puts students first and is committed to serving the mission of the institution. He brings valuable leadership and coaching experience to the team — qualities that I truly value and know our coaches appreciate as well,” Steinbarger said. “I am excited to see how Jason will continue to make a positive impact on PCC, the community, and the many organizations he will have the opportunity to serve. I am confident that his experience, leadership, and passion for students and athletics will make him a tremendous asset.”
A Familiar Face for the Beavers
Deel, a Carl Junction, Mo. native, brings four years of collegiate coaching experience to his new administrative role: one season as a women’s basketball assistant at Neosho County Community College, three seasons in the same capacity at PCC, six years as head boys’ basketball coach at Stafford, and one season as an assistant at Pratt-Skyline alongside Kenny Eddy. While this marks his first administrative role in college athletics, Deel isn’t new to leadership. He previously served at USD 311 as a board clerk and director of technology, experience he’ll draw on as he transitions to college athletics administration. Deel’s ties to the region run deep. He spent much of his childhood in the Wichita area and has called the Pratt area home since 2009, working in Stafford and at Pratt-Skyline along the way. “Sounds cliched, but the community and the group of coaches that were here when I took the job initially” is what drew him to PCC in the first place, Deel said.

Looking Ahead
In his first year, Deel hopes to build strong relationships across the department, learn the administrative side of collegiate athletics, and become a reliable resource for PCC’s coaches, staff, and student-athletes as he settles into his new administrative role. “I believe athletics can teach lessons that extend far beyond the playing field,” Deel said. “Student-athletes will face adversity, experience failure, and be challenged in ways that prepare them for life after sports. Our role as administrators and coaches is to create an environment where they are supported but also challenged to take ownership of their responsibilities and reach their full potential.”

Off the Court
Deel and his wife, Tori, have four daughters: Tosha, Jaeli, Ainsley, and Everley. Outside of athletics, Deel says exercise has long been an important part of his life, and he also enjoys reading a good book. And for those wondering: despite a lifetime around sports and competition, Deel has never owned a pet.
