Hundreds of Kansas Students Visit PCC for a Day of Competition, Exploration & Community
Published on: February 23, 2026
On February 23, Pratt Community College proudly welcomed more than 550 students from 22 schools across Kansas for a full day of learning, exploring, and academic competition during the Academic Olympics, Roam the Dome, and the Annual Car Show.
The day began at 8:15 a.m. as students and sponsors checked in, submitted artwork and photography entries, and gathered in the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena for group photos. Interim President Monette DePew offered a warm welcome before introducing the day’s agenda. Amber Graves, English Instructor and Co- Chair of Academic Olympics, provided an overview of the schedule, contest expectations, and frequently asked questions. Following her remarks, Shelley DeClue, Admissions Rep-Recruiter and Chair of Roam the Dome introduced students to Roam the Dome, PCC’s interactive campus-exploration activity designed to give visiting high schoolers a firsthand look at academic programs and campus life.
Throughout the morning, students competed in a variety of academic events, including mathematics, science, agriculture, art, and social studies. This longstanding PCC tradition continues to highlight the talent, curiosity, and dedication of Kansas high school students. Between competitions, students participated in Roam the Dome, engaging with instructors, meeting current PCC students, and exploring hands-on learning environments. The experience offered future Beavers an authentic look at the programs and opportunities available across campus.
“Roam the Dome was a fun event and a wonderful example of our campus community in action. Our instructors and staff went above and beyond, offering creative, interactive activities that made the experience both enjoyable and informative for attendees. It was rewarding to see students actively engaged during their time between events while discovering the many opportunities available to them at Pratt Community College.” – Kim Lee, Director of Admissions
Running alongside the Academic Olympics, the Automotive Car Show hosted by PCC’s Automotive Technology program, featured restored vehicles, custom builds, and community member projects. The showcase drew interest from students, PCC staff and faculty and community members, further emphasizing the importance of technical and career-based education at PCC.
Organizing three major events on the same day is a significant undertaking, but one that PCC faculty and staff look forward to each year.
“Academic Olympics is always a fun day for me because I get to see everything come together. Having all three events on the same day showcases the many ways that Pratt CC serves communities, both near and far.” — Amber Graves, English Instructor and Co- Chair of Academic Olympics
With hundreds of students on campus and countless moments of connection, the 2026 Academic Olympics, Roam the Dome, and Car Show once again underscored the strong partnerships between Pratt Community College and Kansas schools. This annual event continues to spark curiosity, strengthen relationships, and inspire students to explore their future pathways.
