Name: Heather Cash
Field of Study: Nursing
Degree: Associate of Applied Science - Nursing, 2021
Hometown: Pratt, KS

Heather now works as an RN after completing PCC's Nursing program, 2021.

What brought you to PCC?

I have a husband and three kids at home. It was convenient for me to stay local.

Why did you pursue this field of study?

I have always had a strong pull to help others. I received my CNA in 2003 and have loved the nursing field and taking care of people ever since!

What do you like best about the program?

The instructors were fantastic. Each one of them were always there, for anything, at any time. The amount of support I received from them is something that I will always remember.

Is there any particular class, lesson or hands-on activity you really liked in the program?

I was always eager to learn. Skills class was my favorite. I loved the hands-on portion of it all.

What do you plan to do in your career after degree or certificate completion?

I plan on receiving my BSN, but for now, I am taking some time off to focus on my family and my new career as an RN.

What advice would you give to future students interested in this program?

Don't give up. There will be times where you will want to say "I'm done", but keep pushing and keep at it. Nursing school was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my entire life, but by far the most rewarding and one of my greatest accomplishments. To hear my kids brag about their mama being a nurse is a wonderful feeling.

Any shout outs to instructors, staff or a mentor at PCC?

All of my instructors were amazing and deserve a shout out, but there is one that I owe my nursing career to. Amy Giefer is someone who is passionate about teaching and that definitely projected onto her students. She never gave up on me and never allowed me to give up on myself. I can't speak for my former classmates, but I know for a fact that I would not be the nurse I am today without her. She is a great instructor and cares deeply for her students and their success.
