PCC Automotive Meets with Students at Mid America Dragway

Squealing tires, burning rubber, and roaring engines. Is there any better classroom? There are an awful lot of mechanics and science involved in drag racing, and our PCC Automotive crew showed up to teach and demonstrate those principles.

Approximately 800 high school students were present at the Mid America Dragway near Arkansas City, KS. The Mid-America Dragway is a Division 5 NHRA member track that hosts the Youth and Education Services (YES) program.

The purpose of the YES program and career day is to show students STEM principles (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and how they’re applied in real-world drag-racing. They also learn about the many different occupations that are possible in the Automotive industry.

Students observe racing demonstrations and rotate to different stations where they can meet with drivers, see the cars up close and ask questions.

PCC Automotive instructors in attendance were Daryl Lucas, Alan Ziegler, Philip Spillman and Tyler Wells.

PCC’s Automotive Technology students get to work on our race cars as time allows during the semester! Learn more about our Automotive Technology program on our website.
