Luke Laha

Luke Laha was hired in March 2013 as the instructor for the Wildlife Outfitting and Operations, which  prepares students for a career in the growing commercial industry of recreational hunting, fishing and outdoor activities.

"There is a high demand for outdoor jobs and the only other school to offer this program in the state is Kansas State University," he said. "It's a great opportunity for students to get an education doing what they love."

Laha who is originally from Clearwater came to PCC on a cross country and track and field scholarship and then went on to Fort Hays State University where he received a degree in Biology.

At both colleges, Laha was a member of the shooting club and actually helped start the one on PCC's campus.

Laha said his goals  for the WOO program include getting the program to where it is a well-known two year program and he said he would eventually like to see big name companies come here for employees.

One other goal Laha has for the program is to start a web based and photography hunting class.

"A lot of big name outfitters film their hunts as a way to promote business and people like to watch their hunts after," he said.

Laha said he will be teaching the students a lot of rules, setup and information on how to create a business with this information.

Along with hunting and fishing, in his free time, Laha said he likes to video people's hunts and would eventually like to have a web-based show of them. He also keeps busy with his business Flatland Lanyards LLC where he sells items made of parachute cord.
