Pratt Community College announces their hours for the Summer of 2017.

Summer hours begin Monday, May 22, 2017 and will extend through Friday, July 28, 2017. Operating business hours will be  7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

Haskell joins electrical powerline technology faculty

Wanting to teach students what he learned during his 36 years in the field, Jerry Haskell has taken over the Electrical Powerline Technology program in Wichita at Pratt Community College.

Haskell will be teaching high school and college students both classwork and hands-on training at the new Grove Campus, which is located at Wichita Area Technical College.

“I feel like I can benefit the students,” Haskell said. “I’ve been in the business for many years so feel I can teach them things they wouldn’t learn in a book.”

Kansas Honors PCC Students on All-State Academic Team

On Feb. 12, two Pratt Community College students were honored in Topeka as members of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society. Pratt native Shannon Neifert and Wichita native Callie Hobkirk were named by PCC’s chapter as their representatives on the 2015 Kansas All-State Academic Team.

Neifert will transfer to Bethel University this fall to study nursing. Hobkirk will transfer to Washburn in the fall to study Health Services Administration.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Holds Fall Inductions

Fourteen students were recently inducted into the Phi Zeta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at Pratt Community College. 

Inductees included Hannah Eck, Johnathon McCoy, Mike Kiley and Shannon Neifert of Pratt, Jordan Ricke of Sharon, Karissa Pena of Holcomb, Terry Hole of Derby, Anthony Ford of Haviland, Jennifer Himelrick of Anthony, Raquel Tamez and Callie Hobkirk of Wichita, Amie Coleman of Stafford, Brooke Christie of Mentor and Lanina Spence of Baxter Springs.

INT courses to be offered through PCC in Wichita, Pratt

Pratt Community College has started another partnership with Wichita Area Technical College to provide more options for students interested in Information Network Technology.

“The partnership is a natural progression resulting from our existing partnership in nursing and is another good example of how a community college and technical college can improve access to a technical program without much additional cost or resources to either place,” said Joe Varrientos, Vice President of Instruction.

PCC Tuition Steady Amid State University Increases

On June 18, the Kansas Board of Regents approved the tuition and fees increase at Wichita State University. Full-time undergraduate Kansas residents will now pay 4.4 percent more in tuition and 7 percent more in fees, increasing the total cost to $7,3226 for one year of study at the standard 15-hour course load per semester.

Other increases across the state include a 4.9 percent tuition hike at the University of Kansas, and a Kansas State University increase of 5 percent in tuition and 7.4 percent in fees.

Kansas Art Guild Featured in PCC Gallery

During the month of May, the Delmar Riney Art Gallery at Pratt Community College will feature works from the Kansas Art Guild (KAG).

The Friends Community Art Guild was formed in May 1977. The first meetings were held at Friends University with eight members present. Nona Bass, president, had just moved from Anaheim, Calif., to Wichita and was surprised to learn that there was no organization there for its local artists. She felt it was important that artists could meet and share ideas.

Kansas Artist to Hold Open Forum

Virgil Penner is the March “Featured Artist” in the Riney Art Gallery at Pratt Community College and he will be available on Friday, March 28, from 10 a.m. to noon to meet anyone interested in visiting with him about his artwork. This is an informal question and answer session that is open to students, faculty, staff and the general public.

Biddy Basketball Hall of Fame Inducts PCC Athletic Director Kurt McAfee

Pratt Community College Athletic Director Kurt McAfee was inducted into the Biddy Basketball Hall of Fame on March 26. The induction ceremony was held in KGSO Radio Studios in Wichita, Kan. and McAfee’s induction was carried live on KGSO Radio.
