Soccer athletes and coach recognized in all-conference honors

Pratt Community College Head Soccer Coach Kevin Kewley was named Coach of the Year and Ten athletes from the Men's Soccer team, and one Women's Soccer player were recognized with All-Conference honors this week from the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference, as the conference named their All-Conference teams.

Men’s soccer heads to regional semi-finals

The Pratt Community College men’s soccer team played game two of the Regional VI Playoff’s against Johnson County on Nov. 1. The Beavers took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Jesus Fernandez in the first half. Johnson County came back in the second half to tie the game 1-1. With no goals in OT and the game still tied the teams moved into penalty kicks. Goal keeper Luis Fernandez came up with three saves, and Alex Morgan, Jordan Stubbings and Nerlin Rivera converted their PK’s to give the Beavers a 3-2 shoot-out victory .

Beavers win game 1 of regional playoffs

The 2015 Region VI and Plains District Championships kicked off on Oct. 29 with Pratt Community College hosting Northwest Kansas Technical College. The Beavers came up with the win scoring four goals in the first half and two goals in the second. Jordan Stubbings scored three goals, Julio Vielmas scored two and Declan Fitzpatrick came out with one goal. Lewis Verdouw, Robbie Carter, Fitzpatrick and Stubbings had the assists.

Head Coach Kevin Kewley said NW Tech played an extremely physical game but the Beavers pulled up the win with a final score of 6-0 according to kjccc.org.

Pratt Community College men's soccer player Jordan Stubbings was named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) player of the week after a game against Johnson County on Oct. 3. The Beavers came out victorious during the game and Stubbings scored 2 goals, and had 1 assist for a total of 5 points.

Men’s soccer continues winning streak

The men’s soccer team traveled Kansas City to take on Johnson County Community College on Oct. 3. Coach Kevin Kewley said the Beavers took control, playing their best game of the year so far. The final score was 8-1 Beavers with winning goals coming from Jordan Stubbings (2 goals), Peter Connelly (2 goals), Julio Vielmas (1 goal), Taylor White (1 goal), Lewis Verdouw (1 goal) and Cameron Scott (1 goal). Jesus Castillo, Connell , Stubbings, Juan Negrete, Declan Fitzpatrick and Nerlin Rivera had the assists.

Women’s soccer falls to Johnson County, 0-9

The women’s soccer team traveled to Kansas City to take on Johnson County Community College on Oct. 3. The lady beavers played two members down against nationally ranked Johnson County. Coach Kevin Kewely said the ladies battled until the final whistle. The final score was 0-9 in favor of Johnson County. The next game is at home in Pratt on Oct. 7 against Dodge City Community College in a conference game at 2 p.m.

Women's soccer falls to Hutch 8-0

The Lady Beavers took on Nationally ranked Hutchinson Blue Dragons last night. Although only starting the game with 11 fit players, as Rachel Himyak broke down in the warm up, Pratt gave a great effort. Unfortunately Deby Chamale suffered a knee injury just after half time and Alyssa Kimber came off suffering from the flu,

"It was a massive task to take on Hutchinson with only nine against their 11 but I was really proud all my girls," said Head Coach Kevin Kewley. "They never gave up, and showed great character."

Women's soccer falls to Garden 2-0

The soccer season started on Aug. 29 with the Beavers hosting Garden City in the opening conference game.

On a hot steamy day, the Lady Beavers were unlucky not take an early lead, with sophomores Ashley Contreras and Rachel Himyak both having good shots saved by the Garden City goalkeeper. Both sides battled in the hot conditions, and at half time it was 0-0 .

Men's soccer takes 6-5 victory over Garden City

The soccer season started on Aug. 29 with the Beavers hosting Garden City in the opening conference game.

The game was an exciting from first whistle, with both sides going close in the early stages. However with some after defensive errors, Garden City took a 3-0 lead.

Freshman Simon Christidis from Australia scored on a free kick from 25 yards out to make it 3-1. The half ended 3-1 to Garden City.

Men's and Women's Soccer Compete in Spring Friendlies

The Pratt Community College men’s and women’s soccer teams were both in action over the weekend.

The Beaver men played a spring friendly match against Friends University. Declan Fitzpatrick scored the lone goal for the Beavers off of a Matt Price long throw in. The Falcons answered the goal to make the score 1-1, and the game finished in a tie as neither team could come up with a winner.

"It was an impressive display by the men as they were in control for most of the game," said Assistant Coach Mike Daniels.
