PCC Hosts Academic Olympics and Car Show

Nearly 700 high school students are expected on Pratt Community College’s campus Feb. 24 for the annual Academic Olympics.

The students, from 21 area high schools, will take part in competitions and tests to see where they rank against their peers.

There are 56 competitions to choose from, ranging from welding to algebra to agriculture. Each student is able to pick three areas in which to compete.

Moss recipient of 26th Boyd Davies Executive-in-Residence

On March 11, Pratt Community College will honor Lou Lynne Moss as the 26th Boyd Davies Executive-in-Residence.

Moss established The Flower Shoppe in 1977 at 106 South Main St. in Pratt. The shop then moved to 209 East 4th in in 1982 and currently is at 201 East 4th.

“Lou Lynn Moss provides an excellent example of a local business owner who promotes their industry by serving in a leadership roles locally, and at state and national level,” said Junnae Landry, event coordinator.

PCC Alumnus Honored

The American Association of Community Colleges recently selected former Pratt Community College student Joseph Searles III to receive the 2014 Outstanding Alumni Award. The award is given annually to former students from community colleges who are making outstanding contributions to their chosen career fields and to their communities. Searles and the other five Outstanding Alumni Award recipients will be recognized during an awards brunch at the AACC 2014 Annual Convention in Washington, D.C. next April.

Students Take Ecology Field Trip

On Sept. 26 Kip Chambers' environmental science class went on a field trip to the South Fork of the Ninnescah River in Lemon Park. The project is part of an ecology section covered in the class. The students learn about the ecology of a small stream through various hands-on activities.

Beavers Hang Tough At Hutchinson

The Pratt Community College Beavers took on the Hutchinson Blue Dragons in a three game series last night.The Beavers jumped to an early lead in the first inning. A power display coming from a Trey Trahan home run put the Beavers on top 1-0. Then in the top of the fourth, they put two more runs on the board, and were able to tack on another in the 6th. The offense was led by sophomore Scott Alvarez who was 3-3 including 2 doubles. Colter Barnes and Gaige Webster also had multiple hits.

Delmar Riney Gallery Debuts July Exhibit

The 'jungle' is in full display during the month of July in the Pratt Community College Delmar Riney Art Gallery. Palm trees, snakes, elephants and monkeys, as well as a variety of children's art projects and photographs from this summer's PCC Summer Music Theatre Camp are featured in the gallery. The camp is a project of PCC Performing Arts and also included two performances of Disney's 'The Jungle Book' on June 21 & 22 in Carpenter Auditorium.

Performing Arts students travel to Tennessee

On May 10, 16 members of the Performing Arts Department left Pratt and headed to Tennessee to celebrate another successful semester. The group met with PCC graduate Kellye Pritchett Huesman in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., before enjoying Dolly Parton's Dollywood. The group spent the next few days enjoying the entertainment there before exploring the Smoky Mountains and the Gatlinburg Aquarium. Next, the PCC students performed the pre-show at the Country Tonite Show in Pigeon Forge and at Graceland in Memphis.
