Pratt Community College announces their hours for the Summer of 2017.

Summer hours begin Monday, May 22, 2017 and will extend through Friday, July 28, 2017. Operating business hours will be  7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

Wildlife Photographer Displays Work in Gallery

During September, the Delmar Riney Art Gallery at Pratt Community College will feature the work of Nadia Marji, managing editor of Kansas Wildlife & Parks magazine. In her exhibit, Marji shares bird and wildlife snapshots from her travels across Kansas over the past three years. 

“I believe that photographing wildlife is largely a matter of being hidden in the right place at the right time,” said Marji, who uses skills she has acquired as a hunter to capture her photos. 

PCC Welcomes New Admissions Director

On Aug. 24, Pratt Community College welcomed Jackie Mundt as the new Director of Admissions and Recruiting.
 
“Jackie brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our team, having over five years of corporate sales, brand marketing, and customer accountability, forecasting and market analysis,” said Lisa Perez Miller, vice president of students and enrollment management. “We are fortunate to hire someone with Jackie’s credentials and I am confident she will bring many valuable attributes to our team.”
 

College choir open to community, children

Each year, Pratt Community College’s vocal department invites community members and children to join the school's choir. 

“Each year we have a lot of fun with the community,” said J.J. Rupe, director of the PCC and community choir. “I would like to see everyone return from last semester and new faces as well.”

The kids' choir meet every Monday from 4-5 p.m. The group is for boys and girls between the ages of kindergarten and fifth grade who enjoy singing and performing. 

Haskell joins electrical powerline technology faculty

Wanting to teach students what he learned during his 36 years in the field, Jerry Haskell has taken over the Electrical Powerline Technology program in Wichita at Pratt Community College.

Haskell will be teaching high school and college students both classwork and hands-on training at the new Grove Campus, which is located at Wichita Area Technical College.

“I feel like I can benefit the students,” Haskell said. “I’ve been in the business for many years so feel I can teach them things they wouldn’t learn in a book.”

Hamm Elected President of KACCT

Pratt Community College Board Chair Michele Hamm has confirmed the next step in her service to the college and will spend the coming year as president of the Kansas Association of Community College Trustees. This will be Hamm’s second year on the executive committee, having just completed a one year term as secretary.

All 19 Kansas community colleges have representatives in KACCT, which aims to advocate for its constituencies through cooperation, collaboration and communication.

Alumna says "PCC was the foundation to my degree"

“I loved PCC, it was my favorite year of college,” said Kimberly Brown, who attended Pratt Community College during the 2006-2007 school year.

Brown, who grew up in Pratt, said she originally attended PCC because she could get her general education classes out of the way while still living at home but saw many benefits later in life.

“The class sizes and availability of the teachers was wonderful,” she said. “I later saw how my decision to go to PCC made my foundation stronger than that of my peers.”

Lisa Perez Miller, vice president of students / enrollment management, and Kurt McAfee, athletic director, are among the 22 participants selected after nominations by their institutions.

Shooting Sports Club Trains in Nevada

Earlier this month, three members of the Pratt Community College shooting sports club and one instructor traveled to the Frontsight Firearms Training Institute Parumph, Nev. for defensive shooting training.
 

Student Admissions Representatives Accepting Applications

Pratt Community College is currently seeking students to serve as Student Admissions Representatives. This is the third year of the program, and spaces are now available for students who want to learn about public relations, event promotion, recruiting and mentoring. 

PCC Welcomes Miss Kansas Pageant

This year, Pratt celebrates 60 years of hosting the Miss Kansas Pageant. Pratt Community College is the longtime provider of the pageant’s unique venue and a major in-kind sponsor. The event, which brings hundreds of people into the community from around the state, has been held on campus for over half of its history in Pratt.The pageant is held in the college’s Dennis Lesh Sport Arena, and contestants spend the week residing in the college residence halls.
