Pratt Community College announces their hours for the Summer.

Summer hours begin Monday, May 21 and will extend through Friday, July 27. Operating business hours will be  7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

Kansas Art Guild Featured in PCC Gallery

During the month of May, the Delmar Riney Art Gallery at Pratt Community College will feature works from the Kansas Art Guild (KAG).

The Friends Community Art Guild was formed in May 1977. The first meetings were held at Friends University with eight members present. Nona Bass, president, had just moved from Anaheim, Calif., to Wichita and was surprised to learn that there was no organization there for its local artists. She felt it was important that artists could meet and share ideas.

PCC Scholarship Auction a Success

On April 25, the Pratt Community College Foundation hosted the 26th annual scholarship auction. The theme was “Under the Big Top,” and the carnival-inspired evening included dinner, raffles, a live auction with John Hamm, a silent auction and a performance by PCC’s vocal ensemble, Encore!. Altogether, more than 90 items were auctioned off.

According to Kent Adams, Vice President of Finance / Operations, the auction netted $37,597 for student scholarships.

Outstanding Alumnus and Graduating Scholars Honored

On April 26, Pratt Community College honored 2014 Outstanding Alumnus Dr. Shirle Ibeawuchi, the 2014 Presidential Above and Beyond scholars and the 2014 graduating named scholars at a special brunch ceremony. The Presidential Above and Beyond Scholarship is an award given to students who meet academic criteria and demonstrate leadership and community involvement. Named scholars are those students who have received a scholarship from the PCC Foundation that has been designated by an individual donor and named in their honor.

Ag students place second in Ag Business competition

Agriculture students from all over the country competed against each other on April 11-13 in Maryville, Mo.

Four students from Pratt Community College went to the North America College and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) competition and received second place in the Ag Business Management contest. The competition is for all agriculture students who attend a 2- or 4-year school.

“It was a competitive environment and a challenging test,” said Mitch Urban, a sophomore from Wellington. “I feel good about how we performed.”

PCC to Host Annual Auction

Join Pratt Community College on April 25 for the annual foundation auction, a fundraiser that supports the scholarship fund for PCC students. This year the theme is “Under the Big Top” and the evening festivities include dinner, raffles, a silent auction and a live auction, as well as a thrilling performance by PCC’s own vocal ensemble, Encore!.

The event will be held at the Pratt 4-H Center and doors open at 6 p.m. The meal including grilled chicken and pulled pork sandwiches, tossed salad, new potatoes, nachos and popcorn begins at 6:30 p.m.

Pratt Community College to Honor Outstanding Alumnus and Scholars

On April 26, the Pratt Community College Foundation will honor the 2014 Outstanding Alumnus, Dr. Shirle Ibeawuchi. The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Riney Student Conference Center with a light brunch followed by a recognition ceremony. All 2014 graduating students who have received named scholarships and the Above and Beyond scholars will also attend.

PTK and KBD Members Inducted

On March 26, Pratt Community College inducted 27 new members into Phi Theta Kappa and Kappa Beta Delta inducted six. The chapter advisers of the two honor societies presided over the ceremony, which was attended by family and friends of the inductees in addition to PCC faculty, staff, administrators and trustees.

President Calvert gave brief opening remarks and challenged the inductees to set the bar for scholarship and leadership among their peers as they continue to pursue their education.

Kansas Artist to Hold Open Forum

Virgil Penner is the March “Featured Artist” in the Riney Art Gallery at Pratt Community College and he will be available on Friday, March 28, from 10 a.m. to noon to meet anyone interested in visiting with him about his artwork. This is an informal question and answer session that is open to students, faculty, staff and the general public.

PCC Performing Arts department presents Aida

The Pratt Community College Performing Arts Department is pleased to present Disney’s Elton John and Tim Rice musical, Aida.

The story is about Egypt enslaving the city of Nubia and the great power’s prince, Radames (Colter Hawks). He is engaged to the fashionable Amneris (Brittnee Hill). However, when Aida (Carina Temores), the princess of Nubia, comes to the palace as a slave, love turns everything upside down and leads everyone down paths they never could have imagined.

Biddy Basketball Hall of Fame Inducts PCC Athletic Director Kurt McAfee

Pratt Community College Athletic Director Kurt McAfee was inducted into the Biddy Basketball Hall of Fame on March 26. The induction ceremony was held in KGSO Radio Studios in Wichita, Kan. and McAfee’s induction was carried live on KGSO Radio.
