Pratt Community College announces their hours for the Summer of 2017.

Summer hours begin Monday, May 22, 2017 and will extend through Friday, July 28, 2017. Operating business hours will be  7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

PTK and KBD Members Inducted

On March 26, Pratt Community College inducted 27 new members into Phi Theta Kappa and Kappa Beta Delta inducted six. The chapter advisers of the two honor societies presided over the ceremony, which was attended by family and friends of the inductees in addition to PCC faculty, staff, administrators and trustees.

President Calvert gave brief opening remarks and challenged the inductees to set the bar for scholarship and leadership among their peers as they continue to pursue their education.

WEM students plant trees to feed wildlife

The Habitat and Food Plot Production class planted 30 trees on-campus with the hopes of bringing animals to the area.

“They are wildlife oriented trees,” said Luke Laha, instructor. “They aren’t planted to look pretty but planted to feed wildlife, deer in particular.”

Laha’s class decided to plant trees so they could see that food for wildlife doesn’t’ have to be planted crops but can come from other food sources.

The class planted apple, pear, chestnut, oak, persimmon and crabapple trees.

Pratt county schools come together for concert

The Pratt Community College Performing Arts Department will host the County Wide Choral Extravaganza on March 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Carpenter Auditorium.

The concert will showcase the musical talents of Pratt county students from PCC and Skyline High School. During the evening, the choirs will sing separately and together, with additional performances by their show choirs.

“It gives all the high school and college students in Pratt County a chance to sing together and create a sense of camaraderie,” said J.J. Rupe, PCC music instructor.

Administrators Attend National Legislative Summit

Pratt Community College President Michael Calvert, along with PCC Board of Trustees members Darrell Shumway and Jeff Shumway recently attended the Community College National Legislative Summit. The Summit took place in Washington, D.C. from Feb. 10 – 13 and sponsored by the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT).

PCC Welcomes New Foundation Director

Ann Ruder is returning to Pratt Community College as the new Foundation Director, and she is on a mission to connect with college students, alumni, and the surrounding community. The Foundation Director is responsible for initiatives related to college funding, grants, scholarships, and alumni engagement.

Ruder's first week on the job included a grant-writing workshop in Haysville, meeting with area banks and attorneys, and preparation for the PCC Student Welcome Picnic in August.

Auto Tech Program Certified

Congratulations to the Automotive Technology program on receiving a NATEF certification for the next five years, which acknowledges that the program meets national standards of excellence.
The program was first certified through the efforts of Daryl Lucas when he came on board in the early 90's and has remained certified since that time.
Lucas is still an integral part of the program today and serves as the automotive and diesel coordinator.

Delmar Riney Gallery Debuts July Exhibit

The 'jungle' is in full display during the month of July in the Pratt Community College Delmar Riney Art Gallery. Palm trees, snakes, elephants and monkeys, as well as a variety of children's art projects and photographs from this summer's PCC Summer Music Theatre Camp are featured in the gallery. The camp is a project of PCC Performing Arts and also included two performances of Disney's 'The Jungle Book' on June 21 & 22 in Carpenter Auditorium.
