In celebration of March Women’s History Month, Pratt Community College LINDA HUNT MEMORIAL LIBRARY and PCC instructor Rhonda Westerhaus’ EDU 277 Children’s Literature class hosted guest speaker Michaeline Chance-Reay from the Kansas Council on the topic of “The Harvey Girls” on Mar. 16.

PCC Library features Dr. Trisha Jackson: Gardening with Biochar on Feb. 10

Linda Hunt Memorial Library invites PCC students, employees and community members to attend guest speaker Dr. Trisha Jackson, a PCC science instructor, on her discussion of biochar.

Among other uses, biochar may be added to soils to improve the function of the soil ecosystem. Jackson will speak not only about the Amazonian origins and special characteristics of biochar but also how everyone can benefit from using it to make their crops and plants thrive.

Two PCC programs receive local grant

The PCC Library and Performing Arts Department each received a grant from the local South Central Community Foundation (SCCF). SCCF offers annual Community Grants to nonprofit organizations from their seven county service area including Barber, Comanche, Kingman, Kiowa, Pratt, Rice, and Stafford County.

Growing up in North Dakota, Cheri Hitt would sit on her dad’s knee reading the High Plains Journal with him, picking different ranches in Kansas that she wanted to own someday.

In 1990 Hitt  made her dream of living in Kansas a reality and knew she was home when she hit the cobblestone streets of Pratt. 

Since that time, Hitt has recognized by becoming Rookie of the Year, qualifying for membership in the Million Dollar Round Table,  and now becoming Pratt Community College’s 27th Boyd Davies Executive-in-Residence.

PCC To Host Community Coffee

Residents of Pratt are invited to take part in an upcoming coffee and discussion with Pratt Community College President Michael Calvert. On Oct. 7, the Linda Hunt Memorial Library at PCC will host a casual meet-n-greet to facilitate dialogue between the college and the public.

“The purpose of this event is to build on-campus community between students, employees and community members alike," said Sandra Wagner, Director of Learning Resources at PCC. "We’re excited because of the great opportunity we have to share conversation with all of our partners.”
