2018 Dennis Lesh Teacher of the Year awarded to Rhonda Westerhaus

Each year, Pratt Community College awards a faculty member the Dennis Lesh Foundation Teacher Recognition Award at commencement. The prestigious award is based on nominations from students, faculty and staff.

Rhonda Westerhaus, education instructor, won the award this year.

“Rhonda is an extremely optimistic and positive person in everything she does,” said Carol Ricke, business instructor. “She shows a genuine concern for her students. She’s always working hard to make sure they can be successful in and out of the classroom.”

PCC instructor heading to Germany for educational seminar

A Pratt Community College instructor is trading in her beaver gear for lederhosen and traveling to Germany for a teacher’s workshop during the summer. Education instructor, Rhonda Westerhaus, was selected, along with 19 other teachers across the United States, by the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) to participate in a three week-long workshop that will take place in Leipzig, Germany.
 

Pratt Community College Named Top Ten Community College in the Country

In September, Pratt Community College was named one of the Top Ten Community Colleges in the Country by SmartAsset.com, a blog that uses software and data to solve financial problems.

A college education is increasingly important in order to get and keep a job in the current information-oriented world, while at the same time, college costs are rising. SmartAsset evaluated approximately 700 public community colleges across the country in order to find the best investment.

Pratt Community College Begins Academic Year Confidently

On Aug. 11, Pratt Community College Board of Trustees Chair Michele Hamm and President Michael Calvert welcomed the faculty back to campus and greeted staff members with a reception and “State of the College” address.

Hamm opened the address and shared her enthusiasm for the new school year.

ESP Donates Scholarship Funds

The Educational Support Professionals (ESP) recently presented a $2,000 check to the Pratt Community College Foundation, which will go towards the ESP endowed scholarship.

ESP is comprised of 17 PCC staff members and strives to promote a positive working and learning environment by providing professional development, scholarship support, fellowship and assistance to students and fellow employees.

PCC Hosts Academic Olympics and Car Show

Nearly 700 high school students are expected on Pratt Community College’s campus Feb. 24 for the annual Academic Olympics.

The students, from 21 area high schools, will take part in competitions and tests to see where they rank against their peers.

There are 56 competitions to choose from, ranging from welding to algebra to agriculture. Each student is able to pick three areas in which to compete.
