Pratt Community College announces their hours for the Summer of 2017.

Summer hours begin Monday, May 22, 2017 and will extend through Friday, July 28, 2017. Operating business hours will be  7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

PCC student receives KDB scholarship

The Kappa Beta Delta (KBD) Honor Society has announced the 2017 recipients of Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Regions Merit Scholarships which includes one Pratt Community College business student.

Sophomore, Tyanna Hughes, was awarded a $500 scholarship which she says she will use next year when she transfers to Central Methodist University in Missouri.

“I was very excited when I found out,” said Hughes. “The scholarship will be a big help next year.”

Business class creates marketing plan, display case

Students in most Introduction to Business classes are asked to come up with a business plan but Pratt Community College’s business instructor Junnae Landry takes it a step further by asking them to write a marketing plan.

“The marketing plan still requires students to write a budget, set goals and figure out what they are going to sell and to whom, but adding the marketing plan just takes it a step further,” Landry said.

Forum held for community to voice concerns about nursing program

A forum for healthcare and business representatives from the Pratt Community College service area was hosted on April 6 by the college. The purpose of the forum was to brief the group about the impact of the recent accreditation visit by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the national accrediting body. Thirty-five people attended the forum, including representative from health care agencies in Pratt, Medicine Lodge, Cunningham and Greensburg. Most of these agencies currently employee PCC nursing graduates.

Skaggs feels it's important to work while attending school

After working in retail for more than five years, Abby Skaggs decided it was time to try a different part-time job while in school.

Skaggs, a sophomore at Pratt Community College majoring in Accounting and Business, was offered a tellers job as a teller at People’s Bank and decided to try it.

“I was looking for something different than retail,” Skaggs said. “I love the constant flow of people and that I put what I learn at the school to use on a daily basis.”

On March 3, Pratt Community College inducted 24 new members into the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society (PTK) and 11 into Kappa Beta Delta (KBD), the business honor society in a joint ceremony.

Friends University, Pratt Community College Sign Articulation Agreement

Friends University is partnering with Pratt Community College on an articulation agreement that allows students to seamlessly transfer credits from PCC to Friends University. 

“This agreement will allow a student who completes an associate's degree at PCC to be accepted as a College of Business, Arts, Sciences and Education student at Friends University,” said Dr. Darcy Zabel, interim president of Friends University. “It recognizes that PCC students have completed their general education requirements and are ready to pursue a bachelor’s degree at Friends.”

Students Attend Chamber Dinner, Foundation Director Joins Chamber Board

On Oct. 23, 10 Pratt Community College employees and students attended the 2014 Annual Chamber of Commerce Meeting and Dinner. This group included five students in PCC’s business program, who came to get a taste of a Chamber event and talk to other business leaders in the community. 

Moss recipient of 26th Boyd Davies Executive-in-Residence

On March 11, Pratt Community College will honor Lou Lynne Moss as the 26th Boyd Davies Executive-in-Residence.

Moss established The Flower Shoppe in 1977 at 106 South Main St. in Pratt. The shop then moved to 209 East 4th in in 1982 and currently is at 201 East 4th.

“Lou Lynn Moss provides an excellent example of a local business owner who promotes their industry by serving in a leadership roles locally, and at state and national level,” said Junnae Landry, event coordinator.
