Kansas Art Guild featured in Delmar Riney Art Gallery

During the months of September and October, the Delmar Riney Art Gallery will exhibit works of art from multiple artists in the Kansas Art Guild.

The Friends Community Art Guild was formed in May, 1977. The first meetings were held at Friends University with eight members present. Nona Bass, President, had just moved from Anaheim, California, to Wichita and was surprised to learn that there was no organization in Wichita for its local artists. She felt it was important that artists could meet and share ideas.

Riney Art Gallery features student photographers

The Delmar Riney Art Gallery at Pratt Community College will host an exhibit featuring works of photography by Stan Reimer’s advanced photography class this month.

The exhibit highlights photographs from students who took the class offered by the Vernon Filley Art Museum this summer. Area community members ages 16 and up were allowed to participate in the class. The class was taught by Stan Reimer, Master Photographer Craftsman, C.P.P ASP, of Stan Reimer Photography and Gallery, Pratt.

PCC student digital photography on exhibit for April

This month, the Delmar Riney Art Gallery features “student photographers” from the spring semester digital photography class. The class is instructed by Stan Reimer, Master Photographer Craftsman C.P.P ASP, of Stan Reimer Photography and Gallery, Pratt. The exhibit showcases a variety of styles from PCC students and Reimer himself.

Elaine Ray Featured in Riney Art Gallery

The Delmar Riney Art Gallery welcomes a new exhibit to start off the New Year. Local photographer Elaine Ray is the first Featured Artist for 2016.

Ray is a native of Pratt and works from home in her own art studio. Ray is the on call photographer and social media manager for the City of Pratt Fire Department.

She studied art in high school and college, squeezing in as many art classes as possible and has continued taking classes at Pratt Community College, Vernon Filley Art Museum, attending various workshops, and online certification in interior design.

Wildlife Photographer Displays Work in Gallery

During September, the Delmar Riney Art Gallery at Pratt Community College will feature the work of Nadia Marji, managing editor of Kansas Wildlife & Parks magazine. In her exhibit, Marji shares bird and wildlife snapshots from her travels across Kansas over the past three years. 

“I believe that photographing wildlife is largely a matter of being hidden in the right place at the right time,” said Marji, who uses skills she has acquired as a hunter to capture her photos.

February Gallery Displays Work of Neil Goss

During the month of February, the Delmar Riney Art Gallery at Pratt Community College will display the works of Featured Artist Neil Goss. Goss lives in Lawrence, Kan. where he concentrates his work around natural Earth processes while responding to human impacts upon those processes. 
 

Gallery Features Photographer in December

During the month of December, the Delmar Riney Art Gallery at Pratt Community College will display the works of Featured Artist Brian Elkins.

“Photography has been a hobby of mine since graduating from college in 2009,” said Elkins. “I began taking photos just as a way to document my travels for friends and family on social media, however, as I continued with photography, it quickly became a passion of mine. Through the course of the last few years, as I’ve evolved as a photographer, and as my cameras have improved, I’ve been able to teach myself new tricks along the way.”

Former State Budget Director speaks on PCC’s campus

On Tuesday, Sept. 30, Duane Goossen, former state budget director in the administrations of three governors, Republican Bill Graves and Democrats Kathleen Sebelius and Mark Parkinson came to Pratt Community College’s campus to speak about the state’s current budget situation.

“He was a great speaker,” said Michele Hamm, current PCC board president. “He spoke about the budget in a way that made sense to everyone.”

Between 80 and 100 people in the community showed up Tuesday night to hear what Goossen had to say about the budget.
