Pratt County Wheat Variety Plot Tour takes place on PCC Campus

On May 16, farmers, agronomists, and more gathered at a wheat plot planted south of the baseball field at Pratt Community College to learn more about different varieties of wheat. Approximately 50 people attended the event hosted by the Pratt County K-State Research and Extension office.

PCC to host Women in Agriculture Workshop

On Saturday, Apr. 28, Pratt Community College will be hosting a free event for all women interested in the Agriculture industry. The event is open to high school aged females interested in exploring topics and careers in Agriculture, as well as females of all ages with an interest in or actively involved in the Agriculture industry.

The workshop will run from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. A variety of breakout sessions led by industry experts that participants may attend include:

Smith hired as Agriculture Instructor at PCC

Barrett Smith was hired as the new agriculture instructor this past August. He has been teaching students this fall semester in a variety of classes and topics such as Plant Science, Computers in Agriculture, Intro to Ag Business, Plant ID, and Sprayer Application Technology. He said his goal for every class he teaches is to help students love to learn.

“I like learning and I want students to enjoy learning,” said Smith. “It’s easier to enjoy learning while doing real world applications and learning how to apply knowledge outside the classroom.”

Young Farmers and Ranchers prep for their future

Students, farmers and ranchers from across Kansas gathered in Manhattan Jan. 27-29 for the annual Young Farmers and Ranchers (YF&R) leaders conference. Nine Pratt Community College students attended the conference with PCC Adjunct Ag Instructor, Jackie Mundt.

The conference provided young ag producers between the ages of 18-35 with agricultural education, motivational speakers and opportunities to connect with industry resources and network with peers.

PCC partners with Skyland Grain for new agriculture program

Pratt Community College and Skyland Grain, LLC from Johnson, Kan are partnering together to add a new certificate program to the popular Agriculture and Ag Power departments. Students will be able to enroll in a Crop Application one year certificate program beginning this Fall. At the end of the program students will have learned fundamentals of agriculture science, technology and gain workforce experience from Skyland Grain.
