Collegiate Farm Bureau members attend Young Farmers and Ranchers Conference

02 February 2018

Six members of the Collegiate Farm Bureau attended the 2018 Young Farmers & Ranchers Leaders Conference in Manhattan on Jan. 26-28. The conference is attended by students, farmers, and ranchers all across the state to obtain tools, resources, information, and encouragement for those in the field.

Students were able to connect with industry resources, network with peers, and listen to inspiring keynote speakers, Kevin VanTrump and Kelly Barnes, who shared agricultural and important life lessons to all those in attendance. Attendees were also able to attend a variety of workshops relating to the agriculture field.

PCC students, Bryce McKennon, Ciara Hodgkinson, Erin Shaw, and Kolton Smith competed in the Collegiate Quiz Bowl, which tested their general agriculture knowledge.

Students Halie Slattery and Kayley Geesling competed in the Discussion Meet, which is a competition designed to encourage members to engage in collaboration to solve important issues facing agriculture.

Former PCC Collegiate Farm Bureau members, Jacob Brubaker, who is currently attending Fort Hays State University, was the state winner for the Discussion Meet. Another PCC alumnus, Shiloh Murray, placed 4th overall.

Kansas Farm Bureau represents grassroots agriculture. Established in 1919, this non-profit advocacy organization supports farm families who earn their living in a changing industry. PCC’s chapter of the Collegiate Farm Bureau participates in events multiple times a year to network and learn about industry trends.
