Softball Splits Double Header with Garden City
On March 17, the Pratt Community College Beavers took on Garden City Community College in a double header.
In the first game, Garden City CC grabbed the early lead, 1-0, in the top of the third. A single by Nelson, bringing home Cerrato started the inning off.
Stephanie Seewer reached on an error to get on base in the sixth. She then went from first to second on an RBI single by Anna Plante.
The Beavers would not relinquish the lead as Garden City was unable to weather a two-run sixth inning deficit. Summer Snyder brought home the winning run to give the Beavers the lead in the sixth inning.
Garden City scored one run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Arnoff but still couldn't catch the Beavers. Fern Garcia got the win for the Beavers. She allowed four runs over seven innings. Fern struck out none, walked none and gave up 10 hits. The final score was 5-4.
A tight game was decided in the sixth inning of the second game as the Beavers fell to Garden City 6-5 in seven innings.
It was a good day at the plate for the Beavers' Sarah Morrison. Morrison went 3-4 and scored three runs. She singled in the first, fourth and sixth innings. Elliot got the win for Garden City. She allowed two runs over one-third of an inning. Elliot struck out none, walked two and gave up two hits.
Laliberte, Nelson and Farr helped lead Garden City. They combined for eight hits and five RBIs.
Emily Wooldridge took the loss for the Beavers. She lasted just 4 1/3 innings, walked three, struck out one, and allowed five runs.
The top of the first saw Garden City take an early lead, 1-0. Garden City's rally started when Lovas singled. A passed ball then moved Lovas from first to second. Nelson singled, scoring Lovas.
The Beavers survived Garden City's surge and put up two runs of its own in the first. The Beavers scored on an RBI double by Peyton Jones and a walk by Plante.
After a quick strike from Garden City, the Beavers responded with two runs in the fourth. The Beavers scored on a two-run double by Kaci Copeland.
Garden City never surrendered the lead after the sixth inning, scoring three runs on a three-run double by Laliberte.
Up next, Pratt travels to Kansas City, Kan. and Highland this weekend.
