Nurse Aide, HOC 101
5 Credit Hours
This is a nursing techniques course designed to develop the skills of nurses aides
in the hospital or long term care facility.

Student Information: No prereq.Student must be at least junior level in high school to receive credit hours. Must provide copy of current TB test which may be obtained from the local health dept.or physician. . Allow enough time. It takes 2 or 3 days to complete the test. Must provide copy of Social Security card or drivers' license if SS# is on license. Textbook required. $20.00 KDHE fee needed on first day of class. $20.00 proctor fee due on day of State testing to be paid at PCC business office.

Nurse Aide, HOC 101-0 (online)
5 Credit Hours
This is a nursing techniques course designed to develop the skills of nurses aides

Student Information: No prereq.This is a 12 week course. An average of 8 hours per week will be needed to complete the course assignments.Student must be at least junior level in high school to receive credit hours. High school students will be enrolled at a concurrent rate. Please notify the Allied Health Coordinator for the latest concurrent rate. You must provide copy of current TB test which may be obtained from the local health dept.or physician. . Allow enough time. It takes 2 or 3 days to complete the T.B.test. Must provide copy of Social Security card or drivers' license if SS# is on license.  Medication Aide, HOC 102
5 Credit Hours
The purpose of this course will be to provide the student with instruction in various areas of specialization, such as gerontology health care and medication procedures. This course will be of benefit to those who have selected any type of community health service as a vocation. Prerequisite: successful completion of HOC 101, Nurse Aide.

Student Information: Prereq- Must have KS Nurse Aide certificate. Must provide copy of current TB test. Textbook required. KDHE fee of $20.00 to be paid on first day of class.

Home Health Aide, HOC 103
2 Credit hours
The Home Health Aide course is designed to provide Certified Nurse Aides with the additional training and knowledge needed to provide safe, effective, supportive personal care assistance in the privacy and comfort of the individual client's home setting. Additionally, the course will inform CNAs of the function
and structure of the Home Care Industry, and their role within the industry in providing high quality nursing care.

Activities in Restorative Services, HOC 112
2 Credit Hours
This program presents an in-depth study of the principles essential to rehabilitation nursing for the adult patient/client. It is designed to acquaint the long term care facility personnel with all facets employed in rehabilitation. Emphasis will be placed on meeting the physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs of the adult patient/client.

Student Information: No prereq. Textbook required.

Medication Aide Update, HOC 104
1 credit hour
This course will cover basic principles and skills essential for the administration, care, and handling of medications which are for oral ingestion and for external application. This course is designed to meet the KDHE guidelines for updating your current Medication Aide license. Pre-requisite: Medication Aide

Social Service Designee & Geriatric Activity Therapy, HOC 121
4 credit hours
This course is designed to give the student training and insight in working with the activity program in nursing homes, as well as familiarizing health care facility employees with the duties of a social service designee as set forth by the Kansas Department of Health & Environment and Bureau of Nursing Homes. Pre-requisite: None

Activity Director, HOC 114-0 (online)
3 credit hours
This course is designed to give the student training and insight in working with the activity program in nursing homes as set forth by the Kansas Department of Health & Environment and Bureau of Nursing Homes. Course will be done completely online. Does not require any on campus time. Pre-requisite: None

HOC 100 Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
0.5 credit hours
This course is designed to meet the needs of healthcare professionals who respond to cardiac and respiratory emergencies.

Student Information: This course is for nurses, nurse aides, emergency workers, and others who provide health care. There is a different course for the general public. No pre-requisites required. Textbook required.

 

 

HOC 122-I-1P   CNA Refresher

The purpose of this course is to provide updated skills (clincial) and didactic to a CNA that may not have worked as a CNA for a length of time. Currently in Kansas, the CNA certificate does not expire, but becomes inactive if the CNA has not worked at least a 8-hour shift within a 24 month period. This course meets the State requirements to re-activate a inactive certificate.

EMT- B EMS101
12 credit hours

This program is designed for individuals interested in providing care to patients in the pre hospital setting. The program will provide the student with opportunities to gain knowledge information, skills and insight necessary for certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) with the National Registry of EMT's and in the State of Kansas.

Student Information: No prereq. May take course and state/national exams prior to age 18, but will not receive certificate until 18 years of age. Textbooks required. Must have current immunizations and TB test.

EMT-I EMS140
4 credit hours
This program is designed for individuals interested in gaining advanced prehospital knowledge and develop advanced medical skills necessary to administer BLS and ALS to patients in emergency situations; and upon successful completion of the course and certification as an EMT-I in the State of Kansas, provide intravenous therapy as defined in KSA 65-6120 and the State of Kansas Board of Emergency Medical Service Kansas Enrichment supplement dated 1999, in lieu of the DOT National Registry of EMT's National Standard Curriculum EMT-I , 1998.

This program consists of didactic, practical, clinical and scenario instruction. This program will be made to cover all information needed as it pertains to actual functioning as a professional EMT-Intermediate in the pre hospital setting.

Student Information: Prereq- EMT-B. Must have current TB test. Textbook required.

EMT-D EMS106
3 credit hours
Emphasis is placed on the role of electrical treatment of certain cardiac dysrhythmias. Basic cardiac anatomy and physiology, dysrhythmia recognition, monitoring and defibrillation. Equipment procedures are thoroughly discussed.

Student Information: Prereq - EMT-B. Current immunization and TB test required, Textbook required.
