Pratt Community College Ceramic Department is proud to announce a ceramic workshop featuring Carol Long, October 14, from 12:30-3:30 in the ceramic lab, 414 Chandler Hall. Students and interested community guests are welcome to participate. The workshop will focus on developing stamps to use on the ceramic surface. She will demonstrate making latex and plaster stamps and students will participate by making their own stamps. Participants are encouraged to bring natural materials such as plant, garden or found objects to use as a basis for the stamps.
Long is back to PCC ceramics by popular demand. She has presented summer workshops and exhibits over the last 15 years at PCC as well as being a workshop participant at many PCC ceramic workshops. Her exhibit will show in the Delmar Riney Art Gallery from October 14 through November 6, 2008. The gallery is open for viewing Monday through Friday, during regular business hours, 8-5. The exhibit will consist of a variety of functional and decorative vessels. The work uses the methods of throwing, altering, extruding, hand building and the use of stamps. "Carol's style is very unique and incorporates a floral, natural, organic feel to the pottery forms," says Marsha Shrack, PCC Ceramics instructor.
Long has a studio and gallery at her home near St. John and can be contacted by email at longpottery@stjohnks.net. She also sells her flower pots and other ceramics at St. John Floral. Her largest show of the year is the annual Wichita Lawn and Garden Show. Long has also exhibited her work recently at Art Spring Gallery in Salina, Ks. and Courtyard Gallery in Lindsborg, Ks.
