The PCC Wrestling Team had remarkable success at the Nationals qualifying meet in Rock Springs, Wyoming last weekend, earning four berths at Nationals on February 22nd and 23rd in Rochester, Minnesota. Pratt wrestlers headed to Nationals are: Tommy Edgmon (125), Andrew Carillo (141), Kirk Fairley (184), and Carl Wilkinson (197).
Pratt sent ten wrestlers to the Rock Springs event and came away with four qualifiers. A top three finish garnered a spot at Nationals, and Edgmon and Fairley both earned their berths by virtue of third place finishes.
There are also nine wild cards spots voted on by the coaches at the end of the tournament. Pratt received two of the nine slots. Wilkinson, who took fourth at 197, and Carillo, who took 5th at 141, picked up the coaches’ endorsement.
“I’m especially pleased with our qualifying results,” said Head Coach Chas Thompson. “To get 40 percent of our team to qualify is pretty gratifying. Our boys worked extremely hard for this, and picking up those two wild cards demonstrates a measure of respect for both our program and our individual athletes.”
