Tuesday, 5 February, 2008

The Pratt Community College Automotive Department recently competed in Darryl Starbird’s Custom Car Show in Wichita exhibiting two cars garnering top awards.

The 2004 Mustang Race Car was entered in the Competition Drag Category. It received the Comp d’Excellence Silver Award, after placing second overall in the category, competing with more than 500 other cars.
The racecar was built by the Pratt Community College Automotive Department in the chassis fabrication classes. Started in 2002, more than 94 students have learned the ins and outs of building the racecar over a four year period. The racecar is now a tool used by the department for marketing and recruiting and is raced every summer.
The second car exhibited by PCC was the Jr. Dragster. The dragster placed in the top five in the Jr. Race Cars category. PCC students have also worked on the dragster in class.
This was the 51st Starbird Custom Car Show featuring more than 1500 exhibits ranging from custom cars, street rods, sports cars, pickup trucks and 4x4s, race cars, classic and antique cars, and motorcycles.
