By:Patrick Hall Monday, 14 January, 2008 Over the weekend the Beaver Wrestling Team took seven of its wrestlers to Hastings, Nebraska for the 1st Annual Quality Hotel Open, hosted by first year program Hastings College. The Beavers placed four wrestlers in the meet, led by Tommy Edgmon’s 2nd place at 125. Edgmon won his first match by technical fall 20-5 and got a pin in his semi-final match. In the final, Edgmon lost to a wrestler from the Colorado School of Mines 3-1. Also placing for Pratt was Andrew Carrillo taking 3rd at 141, Kirk Fairly taking 3rd at 174, and Carl Wilkinson taking 4th at 197. Carrillo had a tough first round draw getting the second seed from the University of Nebraska Kearney. Carrillo lost a hard fought battle 6-4 but was able to battle back winning 4 consecutive matches to take 3rd. Carrillo ended the day 4-1, with 3 falls, and 1 technical fall. Kirk Fairley won his first two matches before falling 6-2 to a wrestler from York College. Not to be discouraged Fairley pinned his next two foes taking 3rd place. Carl Wilkinson made it to the consolation finals but had to default due to an old injury. “Normally we would have wrestled Carl,” said Coach Thompson, “but it’s late in the season, and we’re building up and prepping for our Regional tournament. Overall I was very pleased with our performance this weekend.” Also competing for the Beavers were Kyle Beebe, Lance Roe, and Ryan Cox. The Beavers will play host to Bacone College this Thursday at 7:00 and then travel to The Central Missouri Open in Warrensburg, Mo.
