Lori Montgomery -- 2007 Instructor of the Year

Lori Montgomery, ’91 graduate of Whitko High School, was named Pratt Community College (PCC) Instructor of the Year during spring commencement ceremonies on May 11 in Pratt, Kansas. Montgomery was chosen for this honor due to her involvement and leadership in the college and her commitment to her students.

Montgomery is an instructor in the agriculture department at PCC, and she teaches course for Fort Hays State University through their virtual college. In addition, she serves as Chair of the PCC Agriculture and Technical Division.

Montgomery’s involvement at PCC isn’t just in the classroom. She advises students majoring in agriculture, serves as the sponsor for the Rodeo Club and supervises department work studies. She also helps plan the annual PCC rodeo which attracts over 500 participants from numerous states, and she coordinates the student judging teams for the annual NACTA contest, where PCC placed first and second in the nation in 2006 under Montgomery’s guidance.

When she isn’t busy at PCC, Montgomery donates her time to local groups and organizations. She is involved as a parent and project leader in 4-H and is a member of the Sacred Heart School PTO. She also has served as co-chair for Kansas Cattlewomen and on the executive board for the Kansas Beef Council.

Montgomery received her bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University in Animal Science, and her master’s from Friends University in Management. In addition, she has taken over 20 hours in agriculture from Kansas State University, and she has several years of agriculture production experience.

Montgomery is the daughter of Nedra Wilcoxson and Bruce Messmore, both of Pierceton, Indiana. She has been an instructor at PCC for the last nine years.
