Beaver Wrestlers Fall to Colby 17-25

Wednesday night the #15 ranked Pratt CC Beavers fell to the #4 ranked Colby CC Trojans 17-25. Both teams came in missing one man from their line up. Pratt was missing their 174 and Colby didn’t have a 197.

“It was actually a pretty close dual,” said Head Coach Chas Thompson. “We were winning midway through the dual and up until the last 2 matches.”

The dual started at 157 lbs where Scott Markey squared off against #2 ranked Cole Garcia.

“Scott wrestled smart and only lost 3-1,” said Thompson, “but I need Scott to open up a little more and we might come away with that win.”

Lance Roe stepped in the line-up for the first time this year and won 11-7 in an exciting match against an athletic Delano Palemore. Pratt Forfeited to Colby at 174, and at 184, Pratt’s Kirk Fairley fell to Colby’s #1 Chris Kern 12-6, giving Colby a 12-3 lead in the team score. Pratt went on to win the next 2 matches and received a forfeit at 197 giving them an 18-12 lead. Colby then won the next three matches giving them the 25 -17 win. One point was deducted in the 141 match from Pratt for an unsportsmanlike conduct.

On a side note, Pratt’s Tommy Edgmon defeated nationally ranked #5 Akmal Adilov 5-3, which should put Edgmon back into the rankings.

The Beavers will travel to Hastings Nebraska this Saturday for an Open tournament.
