Volleyball Takes Second at Invitational

The PCC Volleyball team finished second in the eight team PCC Third Annual Volleyball Invitational last weekend. The Beavers defeated Dodge City, Northern Oklahoma-Enid, and Colby. After winning the opening game in the finals, the Beavers dropped the match to Garden City.

Pratt opened the weekend with a three game sweep of Dodge: 30-23, 30-19, 30-18. They Beavers hit well in all three games, going .250, .563, .242. Lacey Olin led the attack with 14 kills, hitting .354. Taylor Randall added 8 kills, hitting .312.
Chelsey Leonard led the defense with 9 digs.

In the second match on Friday, Pratt ended a three year drought against Colby, winning in four games: 28-30, 30-28, 30-27, 30-26. Olin again led the attack with 19 kills at .300. Mandy Zeka added 6 kills. The team recorded their highest block total of the year with 13, with Ashley Simons' 3.5 leading all blockers. Heather Williams dished out 36 assists for a 12 assist/game average. Courtney Purcella bolstered the defense with 20 digs, while Olin added 18.

On Saturday morning, the Beavers took on Northern Oklahoma-Enid, winning in three: 30-18, 30-18, 30-13. Olin had 16 kills, hitting a remarkable .615. Randall and Zeka added 6 apiece, hitting .312 and .333 respectively. Heather Williams delivered 32 assists for a 10.2 assist/game average. Kelly Settle nailed 7 aces for a team season high. Purcella again led the defense with 28 digs.

In the tournament finals, Pratt wound up playing against Garden City. Pratt defeated Garden in their first matchup this year, then dropped the next two contests. It was to be a similar fate this time around. After winning the first game 30-28, Pratt dropped the next three, 24-30, 18-30, 25-30. Taylor Randall had a team high 18 kills, which is also her career best. She hit .390. Olin added 15 kills and Zeka 9. Heather Williams had 50 assists for a 12.5 assist/game average. Purcella got up 23 digs.

Pratt now enters the final stretch of the season, hosting Barton at home on Wednesday at 6:30.
