By:Patrick Hall Thursday, 20 September, 2007 Despite having defeated Garden City earlier this season, some defensive passing lapses determined the fate of the PCC Volleyball team in Garden City on Wednesday night. The Beavers lost 30-28, 23-30, 26-30, 24-30. With the loss, Pratt’s record stands at 9-7 on the season. Pratt got off to a good offensive start in game one, hitting .375. Both Lacey Olin and Kelly Settle had 4 kills apiece, with no errors. But the Beavers could not maintain that rhythm. The team dropped to .200 hitting in game two, .210 in game three, and only .176 in game four. Most of the attack issues were related to passing inconsistency, which made it difficult to even out the setting. Defensively the Beavers did not play their characteristic style of ball. Purcella led the team with 19 digs, followed by Chelsey Leonard with 11. Heather Williams and Ashley Fenlon split setting duties with 29 and 17 assists respectively. For the night Lacey Olin led all hitters with 17 kills, hitting .282. Kelly Settle had an extremely efficient evening, hitting .366 with 14 kills. Mandy Zeka got back into last year’s form by hitting .352 with 9 kills in 17 attempts. Pratt will play Garden again on Friday at noon in the Garden City Tournament. PCC will then take on Midland at 4:00. The Beavers return to Garden on Saturday to face New Mexico Military Institute at 9:00 am.
