PCC Goes Offensive against Dodge

By:Patrick Hall Thursday, 13 September, 2007

Showing signs of a much more productive offense, the PCC Volleyball Team dispatched Dodge City with relative ease last night, winning in three straight: 30-15, 30-19, 30-12. With the win the Beavers improved their record to 7-4.

PCC hit extremely well as a team in game one, going at a .522 clip. Kelly Settle, a sophomore from Larned, led the onslaught with five kills and no errors in the first game. In all, the Beavers had 14 kills and only 2 mistakes.

The second game saw the Beavers’ production drop to .320 with 12 kills, but that’s better than average night for most teams. Settle and Lacey Olin both had 4 kills to pace the attack.

In the last game, PCC collected only 10 kills, but still hit .400. Olin had another four.

Courtney Purcella, the team’s leading defender, continued to anchor the defense with 12 digs, while another DS, Chelsey Leonard, added 9. Heather Williams dished out 31 assists for a 10.3 assist/game average. Lacey Olin served 6 aces, with Kelly Settle nailing 5.

The Beavers travel to Colorado this weekend to the Northeastern Tournament. They’ll face Lamar at 3:30 and Central at 5:00 on Friday, then take on McCook at 10:30 am and Northeastern at 2:00pm on Saturday. Pratt’s next home game will be on Wed., Sept. 26th vs. Hutchinson.
