Faculty Art Exhibit Happening Now

Saturday, 1 December, 2007

The Pratt Community College Art and Graphic Design faculty are currently showing the faculty exhibit in the Delmar Riney Art Gallery. The display of beautiful and functional ceramics and inspirational graphic design pieces will be on display from 8a.m.-5p.m. Monday through Friday until December 13. The exhibit will also be open on December 9 for the Pratt Community College Sounds of the Season Vocal and Instrumental Concert at 2p.m.

Many of Marsha Shrack’s ceramic pieces are for sale so this is a great place to do some Christmas shopping. Shrack is in her 22nd year of teaching art at Pratt Community College. Shrack's ceramics are a mix of functional stoneware, woodfired stoneware and the alternative firing methods of pit fire and saggar fire. Shrack participates in exhibitions and workshops throughout the state. Her faculty exhibits often highlight new methods she has learned at workshops throughout the year.

Cambry Riedl’s inspirational design projects will challenge you to open your mind. Riedl is the graphic design instructor at Pratt Community College. She is a freelance graphic designer, photographer, and illustrator. She has been with PCC for 3 years, and has worked to grow an outstanding graphic design program. Working for companies such as Tigi, the “Bed Head” hair care company, Home Depot, Rug Doctor, Tenet Healthcare, as well as many others has given her great knowledge to pass on to her students. She has designed items for local organizations such as Lemon Park Lights, Pratt County Historical Museum, and Pratt Music Theatre. Cambry recently completed a number of marketing materials for Pratt Community College.

“Even though I am a graphic designer and instructor of graphic design by trade, I still dabble in many of the arts,” Riedl said. “I love music and writing, and in fact, those were my first artistic loves before design and photography. When I was working to think of what I could do for my show this time, I knew it needed to be something personal and yet impactful. I made the decision to put a very large amount of myself in this work, and make it mostly conceptual in nature. There are a few different “series” in this body of work, each having a link to one another. I can only hope that the audience will personally gain something from me putting my self “out there” this way.”

The faculty exhibit is a yearly event. For more information about the exhibit or the gallery, contact Marsha Shrack at 620-450-2191 or by email marshas@prattcc.edu.
