PCC Announces ‘Above and Beyond’ Scholars

Bret Bean
Bean is a recent graduate of Kingman High School, where he was the valedictorian of his class. He was very involved at KHS, as he participated in forensics, madrigals, StuCo and Youth in Government. He also held several leadership positions including secretary/treasurer for Interact and President of both the National Honor Society and SADD. In addition, he served as a staff member for the Kingman High School paper and plans to continue this involvement at PCC by majoring in Journalism.

Lindsey Forshee
Forshee is a graduate of Pratt High School, where she was involved in SADD, Art, Pep Club, KAYS, National Honors Society, basketball and softball. She has received several awards for her academic and athletic accomplishments including All-League Honorable Mention for softball and a superior rating at state for the Kansas Junior Academy of Science. In addition to her school involvement, Forshee has also been active in the community helping with the Beyond the Bell Summer Academy, Scrapbook Oasis Kids Camp, area blood drives and Pratt Recreation games.

Bessie Harp
Harp is a recent graduate of Lucas-Luray High School in Lucas, KS. During her four years of high school, she was active in a number of activities including scholar’s bowl, choir, National Honor Society, speech/forensics, yearbook and journalism, where she received numerous regional and state awards for her photography and design skills. In addition Harp is an accomplished poet and artist. She has had several poems published and her artwork has been on display in numerous art shows and at the State Capitol Building in Topeka.

Victoria Holub
Holub is a graduate of Cheney High School and will attend PCC in the fall to major in Art Education. During high school, she was active in theatre, band, National Honor Society and National Art Honor Society. She also was involved in art, where she placed 2nd in jewelry in the Central Plains League Art Show.

Jeremy Jackson
Jackson completed his senior at Flinthills High School, where his leadership was evident. He served as captain of the football and basketball teams, was class President for two years, and served as the President of the National Honor Society during his senior year. Jackson was also involved in FCA, Student Council, Big Brothers Big Sisters and baseball, where he received all-league and all-state honors.

Emily McIntosh
McIntosh recently graduated from Pratt High School, where she served as Editor of The Mirror and was a computer tech squad member. In addition, she participated in band, which provided her the opportunity to compete at regional and state competitions in solos and ensembles. She plans to continue her involvement in band while attending PCC by becoming a member of the PCC Pep band the Blue Fusion Jazz band.

Kelsi Ptacek
Ptacek recently finished her senior year at Wilson High School, where she completed the Board of Regents curriculum and was recognized as a KU Honors Scholar. In addition to her academic studies, Ptacek was involved in a number of clubs and organizations including FFA, StuCo, pep band, 4-H, National Honor Society, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She also participated in volleyball, basketball and track.

Joseph Rush
Rush graduated from Haviland High School in May as a Kansas Honors Scholar. He was involved in a number of school activities including choir, StuCo, journalism, forensics and sports. In addition, he has been very active in the community helping with blood drives and Make a Difference Day activities, as well as coaching and refereeing youth recreation basketball.

Joseph Schmisseur
Schmisseur graduated from Pratt High School in May. Throughout all four years at PHS, he was active in theatre productions and forensics, where he advanced to state all four years. He plans to continue his involvement in theatre productions at PCC while he majors in journalism and art.

Ashley Simons
Simons is a recent graduate of Wichita County High School, where she was involved in National Honor Society, forensics, Science Olympiad and the school musical. In addition, she participated in basketball, track and volleyball. She will attend PCC in the fall to major in nursing.

Bradley Talkington
Talkington is a graduate of Chase County High School, where he was involved in a number of activities including baseball, basketball, cross country, journalism, music and musicals. He also served as the President of his class, the President of student council, and the CCHS site council President. Talkington also received numerous honors and recognition. He was on the honor roll all four years of high school and was the first CCHS Student of the Month for the 2006-07 year.

Aaron Wendland
Wendland, a recent graduate of St. John High School, will attend PCC in the fall as a student in the automotive program. During high school he was involved in numerous activities, including art club, FCCLA, vocal music, the electric car team, scholar’s bowl, track, football and cross country. He has also been very active in his church, serving as a team captain for a mission trip, Sunday school teacher and junior bus captain for Church on the Rock.

Benji Wilmore
Wilmore recently graduated from Ulysses High School and was involved in FFA, National Honor Society, and 4-H, where he received the Key award, which is the highest award given in 4-H. In addition, he has helped with numerous school and community events including bull bash, project prom, the health fair, a hoof trimming clinic, and reading book buddies, which provides him with the opportunity to mentor elementary school children. Wilmore will major in Electrical Power Technology while attending PCC.

PCC’s Above and Beyond Scholarships are awarded only to students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and leadership skills. It is the largest scholarship awarded by PCC and one of the best available from any community college.
