Community choir returns for second year; children added

17 July 2014

After adding a community choir for adults to the Pratt Community College music program last year, the music department will offer a children’s choir this year as well.

The groups are for anyone who has an interest in music and both will meet on Monday evenings starting at 6 p.m.

“We had a decent turnout last year and are always wanting to improve and get the community involved,” said director of the choir, Misty Beck. “A lot of kids in the area like community choir so we are trying to find avenues for them. It’s also a great opportunity for homeschool students who want to be a part of a choir.”

Both choir’s will sing at the Broadway Review and in the Christmas show during the fall semester and a couple of times that have yet to be determined in the spring. The children’s choir is for anyone from the ages of 4 to 13. The adult choir for ages 14 and up.

“Parents can come and sing and not worry about finding someone to watch their kid because they can be in the choir also,” Beck said.

JJ Rupe will be directing the adult choir.

The adult choir will meet in the music room (room number 42) in the Benson Education Center and the children’s in the Carpenter Auditorium.

There will be registration or cost to be in the group, but possible wardrobe requirements, which Beck said they will help with.
