Trevor Rolfs enters his third full season as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach here at Pratt Community College. After taking over the men’s program at semester break of 2004-05, all Rolfs did was guide the Beavers to a third place finish in the Jayhawk Conference Western Division and their first Region VI Championship in over sixteen years. Coach Rolfs was named Region VI Coach of the Year as the 2004-2005 Beavers shocked the Jayhawk Conference on their way to a berth in the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. Last season the Beavers posted a record of 24-8. They finished 2nd in the Jayhawk West standings with Rolfs leading the Beavers to a ranking as high as 13th in the NJCAA National Poll.
“My time here at PCC has been special to say the least. I’m looking forward to the process of building the Beaver Basketball Program into a National Power. We have taken some huge steps over the last three seasons, but will have to work extremely hard to maintain the level we have set for ourselves here at Pratt Community College,” said Rolfs.
Rolfs started his coaching career at Quivira Heights High School. Returning to his alma mater after graduating from Bethany College in 1996, Rolfs guided the Thunderbirds to four straight winning seasons and a berth in the 1999 KSHSAA 1A State Basketball Tournament. After graduating from Quivira Heights in 1991 as the second leading scorer in school history, Rolfs left the program as coach in 2000, leaving Quivira Heights with a combined coaching record of 63-30. After two years at Lyons High School and one season at Mankato High School where Rolfs was named Pike Trail League Coach of the Year, he joined the coaching staff here at PCC.
Rolfs played collegiately at Barton County Community College from 1991-1993. He played on two nationally ranked teams while at Barton and started all 33 games for the Cougars as a sophomore. After earning a spot on the KJCCC all-star team in 1993, Rolfs went on to finish his collegiate playing days as a two-time all KCAC guard at Bethany College. Rolfs finished as the second leading scorer in the KCAC in 1995. However, he wasn’t finished with his college eligibility. Finished with his basketball eligibility, Rolfs turned to the football field. Rolfs played wide receiver on the Swede football team under legendary coach Ted Kessinger. That team finished ranked 6th in the final NAIA National Football Poll in 1995. Rolfs garnered all-conference honors that season which saw Bethany lose in the quarter-finals of the NAIA Football Championships.
Coach Rolfs earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bethany College in 1996 and received a Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration from Fort Hays State University in 2005.
Coach Rolfs married the former Kimberly Strong of Abilene, KS. She too was an all-state high school and collegiate all-conference basketball player. A basketball family, the Rolfs have two children. Daughter Taylor is age 10 and a fourth grader, while their son Trey turned 5 in July.
