Cyrus comes to Pratt after two years as the Recruiting Coordinator/Distance coach at Sterling College where he helped Coach Jack Dillard steadily improve the XC/Track program at Sterling. He helped coach the women to a 2nd place finish at the KCAC cross country meet. The women's team finished the 2005 season with one All-KCAC runner, one Honorable Mention runner, an All-Region team member as well as a national qualifier.

Coach Hall also ran at Neosho County Community College. While at Neosho, Cyrus was a member of a two time nationally ranked cross country squad, as well as a member of a 4x800m relay team that qualified for the NJCAA indoor nationals his sophomore year.
As a runner at Sterling College and Neosho County, Cyrus ran everything from the 400 to the 5K, as well as the steeplechase. He was the most valuable runner and the warrior award winner while at Sterling College.
