Nursing Pinning ceremony honors thirty five grads

22 October 2012

Pratt Community College welcomed visitors from all areas of the country on Friday, Oct. 19 for the October Nursing Pinning Ceremony to honor 35 students who completed their Associate Degree in Nursing through the Online ADN Completion Program.

The ceremony, which closed with a ceremonial pinning of the Pratt Community College nursing pin to each graduate's left shoulder, is completed twice per year which has been customary since the first nursing class graduated in 1984. Focusing on the hard work and focus necessary to complete the 10 month program, the ceremony provides successful candidates recognition for their hard work.

"The pin signifies an accomplishment specific to completion of the nursing program," said Dr. Gail Withers, Dean of Nursing and Allied Health. "While the diploma notes the degree, the pin signifies the tremendous work and sacrifices to enter the profession of nursing."

The Online ADN Completion Class of October 2012 is as follows: Stacey Anderson (Derby), Caroline Bittok (Overland Park), Deborah Blodgett (New Cambria), Michelle Browning (Kansas City), Christy Cunningham (Ellis), Killi Doty (Topeka), Jill Flach (Paxico), Bobbie Gilbert (Plumas Lake, Calif.), Anna-Maria Griego (Denver, Colo.), Charnette Hunter (Fort Scott), Mary Kaaria (Olathe), Walter Kamanda (Concordia), Doreen Kanady (Wichita), Amy Lampe (Valley Center), Roxana Lopez-Chang (Independence, Mo.), Tammy Luttman (Ozawkie), Hannah Miner (Osborne), Jessica Montoya (Wichita), Amy Mosley (Wichita), Stella Nze (Elk Grove, Calif.), Duke Ondieki (Overland Park), David Osei-Bonsu (Shawnee), Joseph Osei-Bonsu (Shawnee), Marie Owens (Grandview, Mo.), Tawne Pauly (Coldwater), Erica Pittmon (Wichita), Kelsey Rivera (Wichita), Caroline Rono (Overland Park), Patrick Shultz (Winfield), Kelsey Thomas (Overland Park), Bisola Timbo-Jalloh (Severn, Md.), Lawanda Vickers (Edison, N.J.), Carrie Vining (Shawnee), Janci Vogele (Arkansas City), Richard Wangungu (Grandview, Mo.).

The Online ADN Program at PCC averages a 100 percent placement of graduates within six months of their completion of the program, and produces students who go into the workforce, continue their education, and many who plan to complete the newly announced RN-to-BSN through the University of Kansas, an opportunity which allows PCC nursing students to complete their BSN through KU in one year completely online.
