Library Clerk

         General Description and Purpose
              The Library Clerk is responsible to the Director of Learning Resources.
       Primary Functions/Responsibilities

  1. Maintain an orderly and inviting atmosphere.
  2. Daily operation of the Library.
  3. Assist with overdue list and mail overdue notices as needed.
  4. Prepare correspondence, memos, book orders, bibliographies, inter-library loan requests, etc., as assigned.
  5. Assist with re-filing materials.
  6. Assist and instruct in the use of print and electronic indexes, I.L.L. database, periodical holdings index, computer databases and the internet in their search for information in and beyond our holdings.
  7. Check-in and process all new magazines.  Update the periodical logbook and notify jobber of missing issues on a monthly basis, as assigned.
  8. Assist faculty and library patrons with educational technology equipment.
  9. Assist with inventory.
  10. Maintain the display cases and bulletin boards.
  11. Assist the director in the processing of new books, duplication materials in compliance with copyright and with instruction of audio-visual equipment usage.
  12. Operates library online catalog system in routine duties.
  13. Assist with educational technology as needed.
  14. Keep refrigerator stocked. Keep candy basket stocked.                                                            

       Coordination and Accountability Tasks
               Consult with Library staff.
       Supervises the Following Staff
               Supervise work study students as assigned.
       Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and other Characteristics

  1. Ability to use computers; Word, Excel and the internet.
  2. Ability to perform clerical tasks.
  3. Ability to do detailed work accurately and efficiently.
  4. Ability to work well with patrons.

              At least one year of previous clerical experience required.

  1. High school diploma or its equivalent preferred.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Library Science or Education preferred.

              Library environment. Requires some light lifting. Weight limit 25 lbs.
