Head Cheer Coach/Admissions Representative

General Description and Purpose
The Cheerleading Coach is delegated the responsibility for development, organization, supervision, recruitment and management of the cheerleading program.

Primary Functions/Responsibilities

  • Understand, support and enforce all policies, athletic as well as academic, as expressed by the Board of Trustees and administration of Pratt Community College.
  • Maintain effective communication within the college.
  • Responsible for recruiting members for the cheer team.
  • Responsible for coordinating and implementing PCC summer cheer camp if agreed upon with the Asst. Athletic Director and/or Athletic Director.
  • Responsible for coordinating and implementing plans for PCC cheer team attending a selected summer cheer camp, and acquiring certification.
  • Responsible for preparing and implementing travel arrangements.
  • Responsible for teaching and instruction of members in the area of cheer and safety.
  • Responsible for discipline and counseling of team members.
  • Assist with daily practice and travel as needed.
  • Attend and assist with any extra activity as scheduled.
  • Plan and coordinate activities for cheer teams.
  • Recruit student athletes who are in good social standing not only in their respective high schools, but in their communities as well.
  • Work towards preserving the student athletes' acceptable social standing in both the institution and the Pratt community.
  • Recruit sufficient numbers necessary to operate a meaningful program and to add to the student population as well.
  • Be an active member of the Beaver Backer Booster Club and actively participate in fund-raising for the athletic program, including respective sport.
  • To serve as the instructor for the Varsity Sports I, II, III and IV, and Athletic Conditioning I, II, III and IV classes related to the coaching area assignment.  This responsibility includes: a) Preparation of the required course syllabi and instructional materials; b) Maintenance of class grade book with complete records of attendance and grades as per course syllabus; c) Timely completion and return of class rosters and information requests; d) Response to information requests pertaining to the class from the Department Chair or other offices.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Asst. Athletic Director and/or Athletic Director.

Coordination and Accountability Tasks

  • Administer budget and budget requests according to administration and college mandate.
  • Support and provide leadership to the college when working with students.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Supervises the Following Staff

  • Supervise all student workers involved with the cheerleading program.

Admissions Representative/Recruiter - General Description and Purpose
The Admissions Recruiting/Representative shall be responsible to the Director of Admissions.  Shall have the appropriate authority for the creation, organization, and coordination of operations in the absence of the director. Will serve as a college recruitment official, with extensive travel, evening and weekend hours. Will work with a diverse group of people including traditional students and adult student. Must possess an understanding of technical education training and programs and working with business and industry.

Primary Functions/Responsibilities

  • Serve as the college recruiter under the direction of the Director of Admissions.  This will include travel throughout the state of Kansas.
  • Follow-up of prospective students by telephone, direct mail and/or email.
  • Maintain appropriate records in order to document recruitment activities and support target goals.
  • Help develop and direct recruiting activities targeting traditional students and non-traditional student groups, including business and industry, community, and technical education.
  • Maintain a teamwork approach in developing and implementing student recruitment and enrollment management programs.
  • Visit high schools and college fairs to provide college information to prospective students, parents and school counselors.
  • Contact selected business and industry to promote PCC programs and events; provide information to other special groups and recruit students.
  • Target specific recruitment activity for technical education programs.
  • Work through the Director of Admissions and Vice President of Students/Enrollment Management in the distribution of information about campus activities to prospective students and the general public.
  • Help plan and assist with special recruiting activities targeting ethnic/minority and non-traditional markets.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the Director of Admissions and Vice President of Students/Enrollment Management.  Follow a strategic plan outlining recruitment goals and activities, including monthly tracking procedures.
  • Conduct activities to support retention of students.
  • Assist with the coordination of international student admission, recruitment, and retention.
  • Assist with pre-enrollment and enrollment/registration activities.
  • Assist in promoting college issues within the community and campus.
  • Maintain records and data online and execute communication via electronic mediums.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Admissions, Vice President or President.

  • Consult with the Director of Admissions regarding new procedures in the Office of Admissions.
  • Serve on college committees as assigned.
  • Work with faculty and staff members to facilitate the recruitment and retention of students.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and other Characteristics

  • Willingness to understand the community college role and mission.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, faculty, administration and community.
  • Ability to communicate with and command respect from students and serve as a role model to them.
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Possess willingness to travel and work evenings and some weekends.
  • Possess leadership abilities and ability to organize time and task.
  • Possess ability to relate to diverse student populations.
  • Possess high energy level, enthusiasm, positive attitude, good health, and an appreciation of community college education.
  • Ability to quickly develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, school officials, and professional colleagues.
  • Ability to quickly become familiar with PCC programs, with an emphasis on occupational education programs.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and goal-oriented.
  • Computer skills necessary for processing of student data, general record keeping and reporting.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout Kansas independently.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
  • Possess excellent computer skills and have a good understanding of social networking tools.
  • Possess ability to make firm, intelligent and fair decisions.
  • Ability to make a good first impression and represent the college well in all circumstances.

Experience

  • Coaching and/or cheerleading experience at the high school level required.
  • Coaching and/or cheerleading experience at the college level preferred.
  • Prior experience in working with high school and college age students.
  • Prior experience in a college setting is preferred.
  • Prior experience with adult groups and activities helpful.
  • Admissions background preferred.

Certifications and/or Licensure

  • AACCA Spirit Safety Certification (Safety).

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required, or willing to complete a Bachelor’s degree within a reasonable amount of time.

Other

  • Position requires evening and weekend work.
