Pratt Community College summer hours begin Monday, May 20 and will extend through Friday, July 26. Operating business hours will be  7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

Director of Nursing

General Description and Purpose
Serves as Nurse Administrator for the day-to-day operations for both the PN and ADN Nursing Programs.

Primary Functions/Responsibilities

  • Implement the rules and regulations of the Kansas State Board of Nursing, national accreditation agency, Kansas Board of Regents, Kansas Department of Education, and Pratt Community College.
  • Responsible for approving course schedules and calendars for all programs, in coordination with the Vice President of Instruction’s Administrative Assistant and Vice President of Instruction.
  • Actively recruit and recommend hiring of full, part-time, and adjunct faculty and staff to fulfill Nursing Program needs.
  • Evaluate all full-time nursing faculty as outlined in the PHEA master agreement.
  • Oversee the orientation, training, and mentoring of new nursing faculty and staff.
  • In coordination with the Vice President of Instruction, assign teaching responsibilities to all nursing faculty.
  • Coordinate with faculty and staff to recommend an annual budget for Nursing Program needs to the Vice President of Instruction.
  • Submit annual budget request for subsequent year to Vice President of Instruction in January.
  • Coordinate and maintain accurate inventory of nursing equipment for all sites (Pratt & Winfield).
  • Maintain competency and currency in nursing and administration by attending workshops, seminars, meetings, and coursework as appropriate.
  • Approve or deny expenditure and travel requests of nursing faculty and staff.
  • Approve or deny faculty and staff leave requests.
  • Ensure full-time and regular part-time nursing faculty/staff maintain posted schedules.
  • Ensure nursing faculty complete annual Professional Development plans.
  • Ensure that all nursing course syllabi follow current standard criteria and are on the common drive before each course’s start date.
  • Provide the Vice President of Instruction with an annual update of the division’s five year equipment plan.
  • Ensure the Nursing Program Systematic Evaluation Plan is instituted to ensure both Student Learning Outcome and Nursing Program Outcomes have been assessed and achieved.
  • Ensure all full-time nursing faculty attend college scheduled events and activities.
  • Ensure nursing students, faculty, and staff meet all health and background check requirements while in the Nursing Program.
  • Assist with the annual program recruitment and retention plan such that enrollment meets established goals.
  • Ensure faculty and staff actively participate in recruitment and retention of students.
  • Ensure all aspects of the Nursing Program are consistent at all campuses and online. 
  • Plan all Advisory Board meetings at Pratt and Winfield campuses during the fall and spring semesters.
  • Work with admissions staff to coordinate and participate in marketing efforts involving nursing.
  • Serve on the committee to plan and carry out an annual nursing student career fair.
  • Prepare enrollment instructions for nursing advisors.
  • Attend all KSBN and Board of Trustees meetings, and other meetings as assigned.
  • Be readily accessible (i.e., email, phone, text, etc.) to administration, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Serve as and carry out the responsibilities of the Department Chair for the Nursing Department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Coordination & Accountability Tasks

  • Consults with Vice President of Instruction, nursing faculty, PCC support staff and administration, and Winfield faculty and staff.

Supervises the Following Staff

  • Full-time and adjunct nursing faculty
  • Secretarial support staff at both Pratt and Winfield sites

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Characteristics

  • Excellent collaborative, communicative, and supervisory skills
  • Knowledge of current nursing practice and nursing education trends
  • Leadership SkillsComputer Proficiency (i.e., Word, Excel)

Experience

  • Five (5) years nursing education experience preferred, three (3) years required
  • Previous leadership experience, three (3) years required
  • Online learning experience required

Education

  • Required: Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • Preferred: Doctor of Nursing Practice

Certifications and/or Licensure

  • Kansas RN Licensure requiredCertified Nurse Educator preferred

Work Conditions/Environment

  • Office setting as well as frequent travel throughout the state.

Other

  • Position requires some evening and weekend work. Primary office of operation will be hosted on Pratt Community College’s main campus with expected travel to Winfield and around the state.
