College Health Nurse II

General Description and Purpose
The College Health Nurse is delegated the responsibilities and duties for developing, coordinating, evaluating, and administering the college health program.  The College Health Nurse is also responsible for providing educational and health related activities for the college community. Will serve as a liaison between employees, students, and health care professionals. Will promote awareness of College Health services. Must have excellent rapport with all people; effective communication skills. Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
 Primary Functions/Responsibilities

  1. Serve PCC students in order to maintain good health and academic standing.
  2. Check all student health forms for special problems or disabilities, and advise faculty members of students enrolled in their courses as deemed necessary.
  3. Revise student health forms as necessary.
  4. Provide first aid and dispensary services as needed to students and PCC employees.
  5. Order all supplies.
  6. Receive and inventory all stock and return or dispose of all out-dated supplies.
  7. Conduct health education seminars as campus needs are identified.
  8. Refer students to other professional health services as appropriate.
  9. Maintain student files and records of each student contact, including follow-up of any referrals made.
  10. Insure privacy to all, and maintain confidentiality of records.
  11. Teach health maintenance to students at each contact, particularly with each episode of illness.
  12. Aid faculty in requests for health education.
  13. Maintain and continuously seek to improve quality and scope of college health service, seeking out community and state resources when available.
  14. Make recommendations as to annual budgetary needs, maintain financial records.
  15. Insure guidelines set forth by Kansas Department of Health and Environment and OSHA are maintained as required.
  16. Attend faculty/staff meetings, seminars, workshops as deemed necessary by the College Health Nurse I (Supervisor), Vice President of Students Enrollment Management or President.    

 Coordination and Accountability Tasks

  1. Consult with physicians as appropriate in establishing policies and procedures for student/faculty/staff referrals.
  2. Ensure college community awareness of college health services available.

 Supervises the Following Staff

 Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and other Characteristics

  1. Ability to establish rapport between students and health services office.
  2. Ability to act as a liaison between PCC students and community health care agencies.


  1. One-year experience as RN, within last 2 years, required.
  2. Previous clinic or ER work preferred.

 Certifications and/or Licensure
  Kansas RN license required.

 Work Conditions/Environment

  Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
