Double feature artists on exhibit for January and February

During the months of January and February, the Delmar Riney Art Gallery at Pratt Community College will display the works of Featured Artists Brian Elkins and Carol Mott.

Over the last few years, Brian Elkins has had the opportunity to travel all across Kansas and through many states. On his journeys, he has photographed many great people, stories and animals ranging from rattlesnakes to buffaloes. Elkins’ pictures showcase some of the things he loves the most, which include traveling, storm watching, vintage aircraft, plant life and prairie animals. He hopes those who visit the exhibit in the Delmar Riney Art Gallery enjoy the many images and take away a greater awareness and appreciation for the creation that surrounds them.

“Photography has been a hobby of mine since graduating from college in 2009,” said Elkins. “I began taking photos just as a way to document my travels for friends and family on social media, however, as I continued with photography, it quickly became a passion of mine. Through the course of the last few years, as I’ve evolved as a photographer, and as my cameras have improved, I’ve been able to teach myself new tricks along the way.”

By day, Elkins is the Coordinator of Enrollment Services at PCC. He graduated from Northeastern State University in 2009 with a B.A. in Political Science and from PCC in 2007 with an associate’s in General Studies.

Carol Mott’s love for art began at an early age. Throughout the years, she has continued to hone her artistic skills through drawing and painting. Mott enjoys taking classes at the Vernon Filley Art Museum, learning new techniques from area artists. Family members are often her favorite artistic subjects, but she is also an experienced gardener, so flowers and landscapes also make their way into her artwork.

“I have enjoyed art all my life and started drawing people in junior high school,” said Mott. “I studied art at Kansas State University and enjoy activities that allow me to express my creative talents and support the cultural arts.”

Mott is employed at Pratt Community College as a Student Services Office Assistant. Prior to joining PCC, she was employed in the banking industry for 37+ years.  She attended Kansas State University and has completed certifications through the School of Banking. Mott is a graduate of Pratt Leadership 2000 and is active in a number of community organizations, including the Pratt Area Arts Coalition.

Elkins’ and Mott’s work will be on display through the end of February. The Delmar Riney Art Gallery is located in the Riney Student Center and open Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. or by appointment.

The gallery shows a new exhibit every month. For more information or to be considered as a “Featured Artist of the Month,” contact Lisa Perez Miller at 620-672-3559 or
