Internship Opportunities
Career Opportunities
PCC students have the opportunity to get real-world experience, strengthen their resumes and portfolios, and network with media professionals through internships at local businesses. The Pratt area offers many internship opportunities during the school year in radio, print journalism, photography, advertising, desktop publishing and public relations. Although some internships are voluntary, many businesses offer hourly wages or stipends to interns. In addition, students may publish their resume in Kansas Associated Collegiate Press’ Resume Book which is circulated to more than 240 member newspapers of the Kansas Press Association. Through the Resume Book, PCC students have obtained paid internships with larger companies in Leavenworth, Garden City and Wichita.
PCC is a great place to prepare for a career in journalism or mass communications. Marketing, advertising and public relations managers are listed by Occupational Outlook Quarterly as one of the top 25 fastest growing occupations. Besides jobs with newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations, advertising agencies, publishing companies, or public relations firms, journalism majors are also successful in other industries such as business, law and agriculture.
Recent PCC journalism and mass communications graduates from the past five years are beginning successful careers throughout the nation. Some graduates have obtained jobs as television news reporters, public relations executives, newspaper editors and managers, desktop publishers, sports information directors, journalism educators, radio personalities, and more. PCC graduates work for companies including KWCH in Wichita and NASCAR in Las Vegas.
